Thumbs up Review: Dreamcatcher (2003)

well, im a give it a try...

Dreamcatcher stars, Thomas Jane, Jason Lee, Damien Lewis, and [sarcastic]obviously[/sarcastic] Morgan Freeman, who is the main star of the film, yet is only in the movie for about a combined 20 minutes.

The movie is about 4 best friends, brought stronger together by a mentally handicapped child by the name of Duddits. Duddits gives these boys powers of reading minds and finding things by the flick of a finger. 20 years later the boys go on a hunting trip, when everything goes astray. The boy encounter aliens in the snowy woods, which are out to, for some reason, make the earth its home. The 4 boys must stop this force, for they think they have been warned about it 20 years earlier. While Morgan Freeman's character is out to "stop these aliens" and may be starting to go a little insane, he is more intrested in saving humanity by killing the civiliain casualties who are victims of these alien infections, rather then finding a cure. There's not really much else to say without giving some mayjor spoilers.

The film is bloody, crude, and 2 the bone (literally), with a running time of 134 minutes, it may seem lengthy, and slow at times, but other times it just zooms by. Pretty much all book to movie, movies i'd say would be hard to do, especially a 1000 page Stephen King novel, so i think they did a pretty good job in adapting this flick. I haven't read the book, and this movie does inspire me to do so, cuz i found it intresting and it'd be cool to see just what else happened in the book, and maybe figure out more significance to the title reference of "The Dreamcatcher". The movie kind of gets confusing in some parts, and concepts are thrown here and there, and some forgotten, and other not really enough explination (for those who have seen, eg: SSDD) and leaves questions like, why did these aliens come? how can a retarded boy help? why must the aliens exit through the anus?

All in all, if your a fan of stephen king, sci-fi, blood, or are just bored, i'd suggest you give dreamcather a shot!

I agree mostly, i found the special effects extremely well done, but i have a few ammendments.

The aliens reside in your digestive track, they start in your throat eventually grows in your stomach and then the natural flow of things will bring them out the rear

Morgan Freeman's character is a little surreal for my liking, but i'm biased since i hate him for absolutely no reason. The story did good to the book except for some lacking explanations as hitman mentioned. The one thing that really pissed me off is how there was no "Pennywise Lives" scrawled on a wall like in the novel. I tend to love all the ties into "It".

Supreme Movie Overlord

very nice review...but I'd would've mentioned to see this film to see Flight of the Osiris, the first of 9 prequels to the much anticipated Matrix Reloaded (which i have seen) movie coming on May 15,2003.. However the DVD with all the "shorts" will hit video stores in June. Stay tuned.
