PS2 problems...

does anyone have/had this problem

my ps2 plays all my games fine, but if i put in movies, it barely plays them, its like 1 in 100 chances it doesnt say "disc read error" its kinda pissing me off, i never bought a standalone dvd player, because i hd spent 300 dollars on this contraption, but like a quarter of my movies work, and they seem to be the crappy ones

any solutions.... ive been thinking about using a q-tip with little bit of hydrogen peroxide on the lens... but i dont wanna destry the thing either?

here you go

OK everyone, after 2 weeks of research and devlopement I am finnaly ready to give my report. Listen and READ carefully, this article will solve/answer most of your questions.

This Article will describe the DVD+R,DVD-R,DVD+RW,DVD-RW Theory on the playstation game console - all version histories.

First let me start by saying there are (as you all know) different version of the PLaystation2 console, how to identify it is simple, look on the back of your console and examine the model number - compare it to this chart :

Serial Number on rear of machine begins with:

version 1 = serial number (refer to yellow rectangle in right of image) start with "U1" and has 10 case screws.

version 2 = serial number (refer to yellow rectangle in right of image) start with "U0" and has 10 case screws.

version 3 = serial number (refer to yellow rectangle in right of image) start with "U2" and has 10 case screws.

version 4 = serial number (refer to yellow rectangle in right of image) start with 'U3' 'U4' 'U5' or a 'U6' and has a total of 8 case screws.

version 5 = model number contains the letter 'R' (refer to the red rectangle in right side of image) at the end (example SCPH-30001 R).

version 7 = 3900X is the new PS2 Version 7

Once you have esatblished what version you have, examine the limitations using this chart:

Version 1 - Basic playstation 1&2 Games no dvd-r,dvd-rw compatability, NO DVD+R, NO DVD+RW COMPATABILITY

Version 2 - Basic playstation 1&2 Games dvd-r,dvd-rw compatability, NO DVD+R, NO DVD+RW COMPATABILITY

Version 3 - Basic playstation 1&2 Games dvd-r, compatability, NO DVD+R, NO DVD-RW,NO DVD+RW COMPATABILITY

Version 4 - Basic playstation 1&2 Games dvd-r compatability, NO DVD-RW, NO DVD+R, NO DVD+RW COMPATABILITY

Version 5 - Basic playstation 1&2 Games dvd-r compatability, MILD DVD-RW, MILD DVD+R, MILD DVD+RW COMPATABILITY

SECOND GENERATION PS2
VERSION 7 - (SECOND GENERATION PS2) Basic playstation 1&2 Games DVD+R,DVD+RW,DVD-R,DVD+RW compatability

The reason you can play dvd+,- ANYTHING is due to the fact that sony has implimented a new laser on the console that is more acurate then it's previous models.

I have tested and can confirm that the 2nd Generation PS2 console plays Back-up copies of DVD+R,DVD+RW,DVD-R,DVD-RW media, this includes Burned DVD movies and PS2 Games.

What I used is this:

To backup my legally owned ps2 games I used CDRwin - However keep in mind there are 2 VERSIONS of this software made by 2 companies that use the same name, my version 5.0 and located @ http://www.cdrwin.info/

To backup my DVD's, use this websites very advanced information to copy your DVD's Macrovision free.

Thanks for everything guys, I hope this helps people!
