Question dvdr's

I have 2 pioneer dvd players, a XV-DV303 and DV-444.
The DV-444 plays dvdr discs but the XV-DV303 dooesn't.
The difference between them according to the manuals is the XV-DV303 doesnt play unfinalized dvdr's. I didnt burn these dvdr's so am not sure if they are finalized or not. Could this be the reason that it wont play them? ie. If the disc is finalized will it work on both?

I don't know the answer to your question, but isn't it possible to finalize an unfinalized DVDR yourself? I don't know much about the subject ...

ifthe disc is recorded in a freestanding dvd player stick it back inthe machine it was recorded in and select finalize disc from menu.if it was burnt in a pc machine you should be able to finalise it the same but normaly you select this option before you burn unless you want to add more stuff.an unfinalised disc will only play in a recorder not a dvd player only.i have a panasonic dmr-e30.

They were burnt on a pc, but I dont think i would be able to finalise them because I dont have a dvd writer. But you think it must be finalised anyway as it plays in one of the players.-------?
thanks anyway
