Review: (2003) Malibu's Most Wanted with Jamie Kennedy
For the past couple of weeks, we have seen commercial after commecial pounding this feature film down our throats trying to cash in on the Eminem hype of winning his oscar.
In the new comedy, "Malibu's Most Wanted", actor, comedienne, Jamie Kennedy (Randy from the Scream Movies) stars as Brad Gluckman, a white wannabe rapper from Malibu who gets most of his "blackness" from watching Black Entertainment television. Spends about 1/2 of the movie, saying "Don't be hating" more than you care to count. (It got boring after he says it for the first 5 times.) He is an embarassment to his father, a wealthy business man, played by Ryan O'Neil, running for California Governor, and hires a couple of Juliard trainned actors, who happen to be black (Taye Diggs and Anthony Anderson) to kidnap his son and try to "scare the blackness" out of him.
The pace momentarily picks up with Diggs and Anderson arrival, who never got a chance to play gangstas in theater school, but even that routine grows tired. A sequence intended to parody the climactic rap battle sequence in Eminem's "8 Mile" falls flat upon takeoff.
I like Kennedy with his Jamie Kennedy experiment, but Malibu's Most Wanted is just simply a terrible movie and should have gone directly to the video shelves.
Malibu's Most Wanted is 86 minutes long and is rated PG13 for language and complete stupidity.
Malibu's Most Wanted opens in Theatres on Friday, April 18, 2003, and my rating: 2 out of 10.
