Review: 28 Days Later

Its been a while since I did a movie review so I figured nows a good time.

When Danny Boyle's thrilling 28 Days Later played at the Sundance Film Festival in January, all the buzz was about a well-crafted horror film, a kinda cross between Night of the Living Dead and Stephen King's The Stand. But that was before SARS broke out in Asia and Canada. Now the movie takes on a chilling new horror in the world around us.
28 Days Later begins with animal activists invading a British laboratory, freeing its ape residents. But there's one problem: These particular monkeys are infected with a highly contagious virus that is either instantly fatal or turns its victims into rage-fueled zombies. We then meet our hero...Jim (Cillian Murphy)...who awakens from a coma in a British hospital to find himself the last man in London (at least until he encounters a handful of other survivors).
Boyle goes straight for the nerve from beginning to end, startling and shocking viewers with the violence and speed of the attacks on the uninfected. The interaction between the survivors is fairly stiff, but it's secondary to the high-end scares this film manages to produce.

Rating:
8 out of 10

Thanks for reading

i agree with you totally rocs.. allthough i would give it a 9/10...

this is one of the better horror films to come out in recent history..

the only problem is.. it doesnt appeal to a wide audience really.. i mean i guess it did well enough to deserve a wide opening.. but lots of people that are more hollywood dependent for their favorite flicks will not find what theyre looking for inside this film.. i guess what im saying is.. that its an aquired taste.. but dont let that desway you from watching the movie.. i promise itll be worth one watch if you havent seen it yet

nice review btw petrocs

Great review, but I thought the character interaction was a lot stronger than the scares, and that was what made it very good. And I'm always a fan of tough as nails female group leaders. We need more tough chicks in something other than zombie films.

Anyways yeah, 28 Days Later rocks, but most people will call it a "total Resident Evil ripoff" or say that its not violent enough, or that it was boring. To those people, I smile and shake my head.

I second the 9/10

Yes, nice comments.

I thought this was a great movie too. A very interesting setting for a horror movie -- namely, a whole country. Usually horror movies use the appearance of being trapped and surrounded by enemies to produce fear; in this movie, the heroes can go anywhere they want and yet still be in danger. Very very good juxtaposition, IMO.

I gave this a 7.0/10 in my local movie review because it does still suffer from the classic horror movie problems of characters doing stupid things that they all agreed not to do 5 minutes previous. And then there's the issue of the digital cinematography which many people have pointed out just sucked. No reason it should have sucked ... they just didn't have a competent camera crew apparently.

Well from the beginning the plot was dreadful. There is no good cohesion between the characters whatsover. The movie just seems to meander along with no real direction. Not one thing about this movie scared me whatsover. If I'm not mistaken. This movie was supposed to do that. Instead I sit around for 2 hours trying to figure out what in the hell direction is this movie trying to go to. Sub par plot. Sub par performance by the actors. I give this movie a 3 out of 10.

If you want to watch a real zombie movie. Check out the classic Night of the Living Dead. A much better movie.

Well I guess I'm wrong with a lot of other people. It hasn't done diddly at the box office. The movie is boring. And no I'm not film illiterate. Like I said. It was garbage.

I guess you thought Dumb and Dumberer was excellent too?

I'm sorry I don't agree with you on this movie. But that's no reason to start trash talking. This post is about reviews and well 28 Days Later is not a good movie.

Great review I enjoyed the movie too, and Spiderman2003, if you can't back up your statements then don't bother posting. The film did exceptionally well fuzz, cuz it got great reviews. There really haven't been any well reviewed horror films this year, besides Identity...it made 10 million, which came as a suprise!

Napalmfuzz. No I do like some independent films. I'm just sorry. 28 Days Later just didn't do it for me. I guess for the simple fact that there isn't too many horror films that can scare me. I wanted to be scared watching this but I wasn't. Were there good parts in the film? Sure. I was a little intrigued by the way the Rage virus took over people. I guess because of the gross out factor. But as a whole. I felt the film was lacking.

And the post about Spiderman being a fucking disapointment. Yep, your right. It did not deserve to be one of the biggest grosses of all time. But I'm not getting into all the deatails on that because this about a review of 28 Days Later. I appologize for call the movie garbage. But I didn't think everyone would get so touchy about it.

,

good review! This is actually how I imagined resident evil should have been creating a much more atmospheric mood instead of over the top violence

Bigmouth Stikes Again

Thought the movie had some great cinematography, really nice shots. Empty city and highways were 2 cool. Similar to a movie called Quiet Earth.

I feel that 28 Days Later did everything which Resident Evil had the potential to do. It was a dark, good, movie.

The directorial job was done by a guy who I am unfamiliar with, but I will now follow up on some of his work, I like it very much. I feel the movie took aspects of decent B horror movies and delivered them with an A caliber.

8.5/10

I agree. Resident Evil wouldve been a classic if it wouldve gone the same direction as 28 Days Later. Also I must point out the movie has been released for a week or two here in america and I only see hear good reviews for it.

I personally think the story is very realistic. Almost all the aspects of the movie have already been used in other movies, but they arent abused of like most of them, thus creating a very good storyline. I also enjoyed the fact that some events in the film are not presented as goodguy VS badguy ( I wont say where caus i dont want to spoil but im sure the ones that have seen the movie would know what scene im talking about).

I feel the actors played handled their roles well and were credible.

I give this movie a 9/10.Buying the DVD as soon as I set foot in Europe (in 10 days).

******SPOILER????*********
Only con in this movie for me is that U know who is the hero and know he will will survive. I wouldve gave the movie a perfect 10 if the hero wasnt expected.
