Hey I have recently purchased the fine films Audition and Battle Royal. I love them as I'm sure alot of you do. Can anyone recommend any other titles from Japan as I have absolutley no idea what to buy?
If you liked Audition, maybe you want to try the Guinea Pig movies? Or maybe Ringu, Ringu 2 and Ringu 0. All available in the UK on Tartan Video (apart from Guinea Pig which is on Unearthed Films in the USA, banned in the UK).
Also try Versus, Ran, Ichii The Killer, Tokyo Fist, Tetsuo, Tetsuo II: Body Hammer. That should see you through for a while.
Yeah I second Ringu, much much better than the horrific u.s. remake.
Ichi the Killer on the other hand, was a gigantic disappointment. It's extremely violent (if cartooney), with a kickass villain, but I have a hard time rooting for a __ (I want to use the word superhero) who bawls like a baby every time he kills someone, and who's motive for killing is that he was bullied in school. Gimme a break.
if u wanna give a comedy a go, theres very few things funnier than Shaolin Soccer....
and of course the upcoming Battle Royale 2 which im sure will be absolutely superb. i have a bunch of asian films here i haven't watched yet, just need to find the time.
