Supreme Movie Overlord

Moviegod's Top 10 of 2003

Here it is: Uncut and Uncensored:

Moviegod’s Best of 2003

10---Find Nemo—nuff said.

9- Whale Rider—Keisha Castle Hughes

I could not help but notice how well this movie was filmed, how I could not help it with how this young lady wanted so desperately to be accepted in the Maori Tribe she was destined to be a part of. I was crying at the very sadness of how the film was very true.

8—Swimming Pool---A French Thriller which has a girl in a bikini half of the movie. The film stars Charlotte Rampling, Ludivine Sagnier, who also plays Tinkerbell in the new Peter Pan movies now playing.

7---- Thirteen- A movie that simply made me go damn, the film was simply well done and I had to watch it a couple of times.

6—The Cooler---William H Macy turns in a superb performance as a Las Vegas Loser who is used by a Mob Boss played by Alec Baldwin to defuse to luck of high rollers to pay off gambling debts until he falls for a cocktail waitress played by Coyote Ugly Bar owner Maria Bello

5—Lost in Translation—simply a wonderful film, and perhaps might win Bill Murray is first oscar, he is simply too good not to miss, and his costar Scarlett Johansen is wonderful

4—Pirates of the Caribbean—this film has resurrected Johnny Depps film career, and brought back the fun in going to the movies, and this film marked the brilliant acting career of Orlando Bloom and showcased the beauty and talent of Keira Knightly

#3—Lord of the Rings-Return of the King—a perfect conclusion to a wonderful trilogy Peter Jackson has brought to the silver screen, first rate cast, just marvelous, but it wont win the Oscar

#2—The Last Samurai---Granted this film didn’t receive a Golden Globe for Best Picture, but Tom Cruise, did a career turn by portraying the Civil War Soldier turn by the people who hired him and the ancient warriors in The Samurai, Edward Zwick is just a phenomenal director.

#1—After much debate there is no doubt in my mind that Mystic River is just a fantastic, well acted movie, that if the academy was smart just hand Clint Eastwood the Oscar 0nce again.

Thirteen was so incredibly fucked up that I don't ever want to see it again...I agree with most of your list though...

21 Grams was pretty good too...

i though thirteen was pretty shitty as well, i havent seen all the movies i have wanted to see this year yet (still have to watch a few, mystic river, and a few others i have yet to see) so ill hold off from making a list for now, but stuff i have really liked this year are: kill bill vol 1, phone booth, rotk, last samurai, buffalo soldiers, lost in translation, i think i was one of the few who thoroughly enjoyed reloaded (hated revolutions tho), hmm thats all i can really think of for now, i wanna see a few others still tho, but those are some that i really enjoyed this year.

Swimming Pool is so excellent, i got the DVD of that. It also has a cameo from the T-1000 from T2 in it.

Lost In Translation beats everything ever released in 2003. So fleh.

Advil Addict

1. Lost in Translation
2. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
3. Mystic River
4. American Splendor
5. A Mighty Wind
6. School of Rock
7. City of God
8. The Station Agent
9. The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
10. Dracula's Curse

And as for who I think should win the Golden Globes...
I haven't yet seen:
Cold Mountain
House of Sand and Fog
Pieces of April
The Cooler

Best Motion Picture (Drama): The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King...(Cold Mountain will most likely win, because Miramax markets their films pretty well during Oscar season, regardless of the quality...it's not like Chicago was anything mind mesmerizing anyways)

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama): Charlize Theron for Monster or Scarlett Johansson for Girl with a Pearl Earring

Best Performace by an Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama): Sean Penn for Mystic River

Best Motion Picture (Musical/Comedy): Lost in Translation, without a doubt. If not...most likely Finding Nemo

Best Performace by an Actress in a Motion Picture (Musical/Comedy): Scarlett Johansson for Lost in Translation

Best Performace by an Actor in a Motion Picture (Musical/Comedy): These performances were so much more memorable than any of the female comedic roles...I'm going with Bill Murray for Lost in Translation.

Best Foreign Language Film: I haven't seen any of them, but I'm going with Osama!

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture: Asides from Thirteen and American Splendor, I haven't seen any. I'm gonna go with Holly Hunter for Thirteen. (It will prob. be Renee Zellweger.

Best Performace by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture: KEN WATANABE! jk...I'm going w/ Tim Robbins for Mystic River

Best Director - Motion Picture: Peter Jackson deserves it.

Best Screenplay - Motion Picture: Sofia Coppola

Best Original Score - Motion Picture: I'm just gonna say Gabriel Yared or Alexandre Desplat

Best Original Song - Motion Picture: Time Enough For Tears - Bono and teh gang (they got robbed last year)

pjeer?

indeed, thirteen was a bit... complete waste of my time. cliche after cliche of the most tired and bored storylines ever. what exactly is supposed to be good about this film? story? yer kdding. direction? what direction! only thing that saves it is decent acting all around.

another movie trying to tell me things i already knew, and make it oh-so-controversial.

I wouldn't consider Thirteen in the top 10 of 2k3, haven't seen a few of the others. Kill Bill? 21 Grams? Monster? Seabiscuit possibly, X2 was also surprisingly good along with Open Range and Matchstick Men. I'd consider those into my top 10 of 2003. Everyone has different tastest I guess.

Supreme Movie Overlord

I liked Thirteen for a couple of Reasons, one its based on a sort of Reality. cause this shit really happens, and the second reason I am in awe of the film cause they screenplay was written by then thirteen year old Evan Rachel Wood, who got a Best Actress Nod for her performance in Thirteen and even Holly Hunter was solid playing her mom.

This film is a solid shue in for Best Original Screenplay.

21 Grams, Monster was extremely solid 2 Many good films to choose from.

I watched The Cooler on your recommendation, MG, but I'm beginning to get really annoyed with William H. Macy. He's been typecast, and I really don't like that character that he's always playing. Alec Baldwin does a pretty good job, but otherwise this was just another depressing mafia/casino flick.
