1 (worst) using one click programs, whether to hurry the rls, or lack of know-how. Or to claim untouched video. And people kiss their @$$es.
CTP (lotr3), DzN (sinbad), twciso (lost in trans) (seen other movies too, those were the first to come to mind)
2 (moderate) 1video, 1audio, 1half-working menu, alot of file deleteing, no editing (9 times out of 10 they say went with the highest bitrate possible, and looks like crap) (Seabiscuit/Missing/School of Rock, comes to mind)
Replica, MPTDVD , Svenne
3 (best) takes time, render/keep some extras, keeps it above 3000 (scene standard) and rarely propered or have a screwup release.
Berger, BHP, aNBc
I dont think thats very accurate at all. I view it more like this:
1. Groups who try to keep the movie at highest possible quality, willing to sacrifice extras, additional audio tracks etc. Also skilled and experienced rippers.
[BooZerS, Replica, old DzN (lately they've made a few bad rips)]
2. Groups who rather keep extras and sacrifice quality of main movie, decent rippers that can't get their priorities straight.
[aNBc, BHP, Burger]
SVENNE, Centropy, TWCiSO and MPTDVD are harder to categorize since they dont seem to have a set pattern they follow in ripping. Quality seems to vary with these groups.
Some misc comments:
Accusing respected groups like CTP and DzN of using one-click programs is pretty much a joke, they know more about encoding/authoring than you ever will.
LOTR 3 had to be done on 2 disc to keep bitrate over 3000, they did they right thing.
People kiss their asses for a good reason, the majority happens to like good quality on movie and dont care much about extras.
1 half-working menu? Of course the parts for extras are not working since the content isn't there, how the hell do you expect them to work?
Claiming those rips look like crap is utterly ignorant, they all look fine compared to original source. I dont get why people start to whine about something looking poor as soon as a movie is grainy/dark or looks diffrent in any other way, most of these movies are INTENDED to look that way and has a budget that more than covers the costs of excellent mastering etc.
The reason Burger/BHP/aNBc doesnt get propered or fucks up often is simple, add the releases of all 3 groups together (not including classics and other crap) and it still isnt half of what say DzN, BooZerS or Replica has released. Compare flawed releases in % and DzN, BooZerS and Replica will all come out better.
Funny that you mentioned Burger btw, their last rip (Rundown) has interlacing in several parts, real quality
