WOW!! This looks great on my f*cking 12" TV!!

Now seriously... No release has boiled my blood quite like this one. In my opinion, this is sh*t... Here is piece of the NFO.

Menu: Intact (Untouched)
-- YAY

VIDEO: Re-Encoded @ 3500kbps (7pass CCE)
-- TOO LOW for a 98 min movie. I bet they could have copied the movie UNTOUCHED with the menu. Possibly not, however definitely could have done better than 3500kbit/sec.

Audio: English 5.1, French, DC, DTS
-- OK. WTF!! DTS and french!? F*CK OFF...

DVD Extras: Trailers, Sneeks Peeks,
DVDRom Software, DTS Tester
-- OK, I am looking for another word for... USELESS! Trailers?! Sneek peeks?! DVDRom Software?! DTS Tester?! WTF...

Subtitles: English, Spanish, French
-- Ah, who cares... 20 megs a pop is easy to spare

Ripped: Deleted Scenes
-- OH MY F*CKING GOD... You ripped out the ONLY decent extra?! HOWEVER, it was a good move since the deleted scenes were 1.5gigs! But you gotta admit, the other extras that were kept are not useful to the movie or this release.

This is un-f*cking-believable. This means (at 3500kbit/sec video and 448kbit/sec DD5.1) the movie is under 3 gigs of the DVD-R (2.75 gigs with the DD5.1 track). And then they put on ~1.6 gigs of bullsh*t!

Going to rip this myself when it's at my local Blockbuster cuz I ain't wasting a byte of bandwidth (beside the NFO) on this release.

You want a nice release, check out Matrix Revolutions by Boozers. Now that's nice!

** NOTE ** This review is harsh. I am super ass picky, but I am also fair with releases and what the groups have to work with. If you have a 27" 4:3 TV from 1990 without S-Video, then this release is the greatest thing since sliced bread. However if you have a decent HDTV or projector, see you in the buy/rental isle.

OK... Before getting smashed by all the other users on this forum (regarding my last post) which see nothing wrong with this release, I will quickly add something:

Everyone has their own opinion. Mine will always be biased towards keeping the "main event" of the DVD in the best possible shape.

Let me think of a real life comparison... It's like, what is more important on a girl, face/body/looks or the personality. Like looks/video quality, they become less attractive with age and you notice your current girlfriend/DVD-R is not as appealing as the new teens/HD-DVD that are out and about. This would be describing the shallow (me) approach. Or you can go with the less shallow approach and go with completeness/personality

That concludes the stupidest paragraph I've ever written JUST in case, that was only a comparison and I DO have a real life girlfriend which is not a DVD-R.

But this dilemna will continue forever! "To keep, or not to keep? That is the question". So hopefully nobody (except BHP which, IF they read it, will be pissed) will get too offended by my previous post... It is only a post afterall

lmfao, although id rather keep laughing, i completely agree with everything you said, except maybe the girlfriend part. there too much of a hassle. (just like picking out the right brand of DVDR media, you never know what your gonna get). Also WTF does this shit movie (well it wasnt that bad, second thought yea it was) need DTS , 5.1, and some fucked language i could care less about (as maybe a few others agree) for. And same day Veronica.Guerin.Limited.NTSC.INTERNAL.DVDR-aNBc , is it a contest now, who can release a shit movie on DVDR with the most useless crap on it in one day, I watched this movie on DVDR in january, (Veronica.Guerin.Complete.DVDR-SCREAM - 1/23/2004 what was wrong with that, i had no problems.

- as to the movie itself its based on a true story, if you know it you know the movie, no twists or surprises in this one. so as it being bad, well i still give it a 6, its something to watch. too many based on true story movies (but thats another topic)

REALLY? I didn't notice the aNBc release... But you know, I would piss my pants laughing if the aNBc release was bare bones movie, menu and DD5.1!! Especially after their "21 Grams *COMPLETE* *DTS*" release few days ago! They did the identical thing with 21 Grams as BHP did with Veronica Guerin (well, minus the deleted scenes that is).

But I am all for keeping bitrate up there! So lets see what aNBc has to offer

I think 21 grams was complete, I read somewhere that Universal removed all extras at the last minute. According to the nfo for Veronica, aNBc's release has the deleted scenes. They stripped the dts and french track. Main bit is higher too if I remember right.

recoded 3980 (6pass) with recoded extras at 1850 (5pass)
Get most of the DVD, and a little better pic.

Veronica.Guerin.2003.DTS.NTSC.DVDR-BHP
recoded 3500 (7pass) no extras
Get DTS audio.

I know most people don't have DTS, but we just got it. And even when it rains in a scene, it feels like it's raining in the livingroom. So some may argue which is better for a recoded movie. Everyone's tastes are different, and most likely the ripper does it for his own taste.
For those who think everyone can keep untouched video or over a bitrate of 4000 on every movie, your wrong. For these people I say, "Do it yourself". I do, but it's almost impossible to do every single one to my expectations. So I learn to be more flexable. If I feel BHP or aNBc is not to my liking, I'll wait and will do it myself. But I tell ya what, the list get mighty big every week. LOL.

I'm going with BHP for my new DTS system, I would have gotten aNBc before the new system for the extras, but now I wanna hear DTS when I can. I'm sure both look and play fine as I have d/l both groups before.

You are correct... DTS is great! DTS is coming into all homes and that is a great step forward. But we have to still consider we are all still few steps back in DVD-5 land while DVD-9s are the standard. Our TVs are getting bigger, our sound is getting louder (not to mention 2.0 now to 6.1) and our media is still DVD-R.

So it comes down to: sacrifice picture or sacrifice sound. You got a new DTS system but (possibly) a 36" 4:3 TV. So sound wins. Then you get a 52"+ HDTV and now video becomes important again. So it's all personal choice again of what is most important and or balance between the two. Which of course differs from person to person.

And of course, any release I don't like, I do myself also (as you mentioned). I will most likely get Veronica at ~5450kbit/sec on the video + DD5.1. Of course tha tis no extras. But I think it will be a direct 1:1 rip of the video (my guess). OR to confuse everyone (after my crusade against it), 4700kbit/sec video and DTS + DD5.1

We are all correct in these posts because only we know what we want But I strongly feel if you all want those extras and DTS, just buy the damn movie People are sure looking at this as a replacement of buying/renting. You waste more time downloading, burning + blank DVD-R than if you spent that time working and go to the video store after work

I have a 52" HDTV with DTS. Only flaws I see on any release I d/l are those people who do poor encoding jobs or use some sort of instantcopy (one click) programs. But I don't sit that close to the TV either hehe.

I was just stating to say that it's nice to have 2 options of a movie with 2 groups who have done very good releases in the past.

I personally don't see how your going to get 5000+, maybe without a menu possibly? But I'm glad we agree on 1 thing, everyone is different on how they would do their DVDrips, there's a million ways to do them.

Yes, there are millions of ways to encode a movie

Quickly the math... 5450kbit/sec video + 448kbit/sec sound = 5898kbit/sec for both.

Movie is 98 mins (98 x 60sec) = 5880seconds

4,600,000,000 bytes fit on a DVD-R before MUXing files
Estimated menu at 200 megs

5898kbit/sec (video+5.1) = 4,439,070,720bytes.
Menu = 209,715,200bytes

4,648,785,920bytes... So I guess I was off by 48megs approximately. Hehe... It was only an estimate, but very possible to get those kinds of bitrates. Which would lower my the bitrate to around 5375 on video.

Oh, and yes, those people who encode with X-Copy and DVDShrink/DVDOne... GOD dammit, those encodes are the worst!!! So that's another thing we agree on

Taking apart BHP release... I find..

For the VTS_01_0.VOB
and the VIDEO_TS.VOB are...

367 MB (385,292,288 bytes)

DTS Track is
530 MB (556,198,286 bytes)

English Track 1 is
314 MB (330,254,848 bytes)

so thats over a gig already. So now you would have to
squeeze video around 3gigs.

So you would have to recode a little lower then 5000 i'd say. Unless you kill the DTS.

Ya, not worth the hassle for this movie. It was good. But not purchase material for my taste.

That sounds correct... Around 5300kbit/sec (that huge menu threw me off) without DTS, ~4700kbit/sec with DTS... They also included French though into the BHP release.

WOW... The menu is 370megs around! Yikes... That's larger than the Matrix Revolutions menu! Might not be worth it if I would only be pressing "PLAY MOVIE"...
