master or slave?

i am removing a dvd writer from my new pc which is dvd+rw only to replace with a dvd rom and a seperate dvd +/-rw writer.the current +only dvd writer is master with the slave free.should i keep the new writer as master and the rom as slave or swop over?.with the current dvd being plus only i did not know if it would read dvd- when coping disk to disk and i don't buy plus media.

I usually put the main HD on master, additional ones on cable select and then the main optical drive on master (to be able and boot the OS from a CD) and extra ones as slave.

one cable is marked master one marked slave.my other pc is same make and both drives were cable select this pc just had a dvd writer.which is set to cable select so im trying both cable select.with dvd wrtier changed for multiformat and dvd rom installed.at minute dvd writer is on master cable rom on slave,which is opposite to my other pc ,would this make any difference?writer burns mp3 to cd fine just trying dvd-video my not retail to dvd-r.

Your burning software should sort out which device does what, when you are burning various types of files..

As a general rule put the fastest device as the master (the speed of the master device determines the speed of the slave (bus issues)) unless one of your drives states that it must be set as master, the install instructions should point this out.
