I dunno what to think of this release, but I will say one thing, it is better than its predecessor by Reign.

I didn't D/l the whole release because I figure I am going to buy it. This is a long ass movie (135 mins) with pretty complex, fast moving and heavy contrast scenes (specifically the hockey scenes). It might be too much for a DVD-R all together.

Max bitrate for this movie (movie only, no menu) is 4000kbit/sec approx. ((4,200,000,000 bytes for video / (135min*60sec/min))*8 bits/byte) So realistically, you can only improve on this release by 19%. And that really isn't a big diff. The Reign release was 3100kbit/sec, this one is 3250kbit/sec. However, BHP kept much better extras (interview and DC, as opposed to black screen and useless trailers).

What I am saying is, if you are super ass picky like myself, buy the movie. The video is OK, but you aren't going to get much better even if you did it yourself with movie only.

To top it off, Disney hasn't been doing great retail quality either lately (last movie that I remember this exact situation was Pirates of the Caribbean). So most of the problems I see might occur on the retail.

Video 7/10 - Not BHP's fault. Just too much to pack onto a DVD-R.

DVD-R 9/10 - Good job! Can't improve on this one much until dual layer burners.

27" TV or 17" monitor - 10/10/8 Looks fantastic on my 4:3 27" non-svideo television!! Great job! Also sounds incredible on the mono internal speaker the TV has!!

Decided to pick this one up... Comparison to Reign's has been summed up very well by porco556...

I just want to thank porco556 for his personal reviews... They've been pretty spot-on with every one he's made.. Good job as always!

pjeer?

if the video bitrate is 3200kbit, then you shouldn't be keeping extras at all. its quite simple. sigh. with the right tools, a bitrate of 3800-4000 should look fine. if there's no extras, a menu isn't needed.

Hehe... I guess I am getting softer on the extras issue since I get bombarded by the "extra" lovers

I agree that 4000kbit/sec done with CCE will be pretty good. But can you imagine the thread of comments if the menu was cut?

Most of my own rips I cut the menu since I don't need to spend an hour removing all the buttons for the extras that aren't there, only to have a 4:3 video loops stretched out to 16:9 telling me to press play. And the menus are getting huge too!!

Next release/post I am going to be myself again (Mr. Hard Ass)

ACTUALLY... One question to someone that downloaded this release.

Please tell me, what is contained in the VIDEO_TS.VOB file. It's around 300 megs. Just view it in PowerDVD and if someone could let me know it'd be cool.

In the Reign version the VIDEO_TS.VOB was just a second flash of FBI warnings and then black screen (empty file) for around 8 mins at 4000kbit/sec with Dolby 2.0 sound.

Thanks!
