Dansai DVD-1010

hi peeps just brought 1 of these from tesco's and all the reviews
that i have read say that it will play anything you throw at it
however it wont even play a real vcd ( shop brought pressed vcd )
let alone a svcd all i get is disc error i have made it multi-region
and it the factory setup page it says that its is V25J01132 ( which i presume is the firmware version )
now is this why it wont play them or what ?

i also have a prima ep-dvd 650 but the vcd or svcds keep freezeing when it has been on for about 40 mins which i think is down to the laser but dont know for sure.

what i want to know is can i update or backtrack the firmware on the dansai 1010 ?

thanx in advanced

pjeer?

i have the 852, slightly better in terms of features (i dont think the 1010 has a macro off function) but a bit more expensive.

ive found the dansai players to be very reliable, and for the price they knock out a good picture/sound feed. altho i still prefer my £350 Sony for DVDs . natch

thanx peeps but alass no help hehe
it looks like tesco have done to this what Asda done to the pacific
dvd player and disabled the vcd and svcd playback
have heard that somerfields and safeway do a daewoo dvg-6000d which plays everything so a trip there to get 1 is coming up hehe

well the daewoo 3000/5000n series are supposedly excellent players, and offer a huge range of playback formats (like the dansai) but even tho they've got dual power option (for US/EU) i've NEVER seen anywhere over here that stocks em, and i asked around too and nobody could help me.

hopefully the 6000 is either a rebadged 3000/5000 or its a similar spec

having bought both the 1010 and 4 x 952 models that have begun appearing back at tesco's, i can confirm they have had vcd/cdr/cdrw disabled as per the pacific from asda.
spoke to the technical engineer at tesco, who said firmware to reverse this may become available, but not in forseeable future.
the best buys i have been getting for people have been the yelo 800 from amazon, £125 delivered and able to play everything u throw at it. cheaper option is the new scan 2500, which seems to be performing well, but scans customer service is questionable if u do get a problem - £99.99 if u mention dvdreviewer.co.uk when purchasing.

cheers
