This is probably a really dumb question, but i just cant get identd to wrk. I cant get the port forwarding to work on the router. I have a linksys. Everytime i try to connect it says closing connection install idntd. I have added a rule to windows firewall but not my mcafee as i dont know how, but everytime i try to connect i disable both firewalls. could anyone help me out with this? This is what my router looks like, is this the right screen to forward it?
I enabled Identd by allowing the port as a Virtual Server for a specific internal IP. My D-Link does not have Port-fowarding, so I can only use Ident on one PC (unless I change the config everytime). Also, make sure that Identd "runs" on your software, it will run on mIRC & XChat, but not Mozilla's IRC plugin - Chatzilla.
113 is the proper port, but make sure you assign to the proper ip address for the computer you are using your IRC client on. If your computer is 192.168.1.100 for example, than make sure you assign port 113 forwarding to that particular ip. Also, make sure in your IRC Client that it is set to 113 (default in MIRC) as well.

DMZ (De-Militarized Zone) bypasses your NAT firewall completely. Easy fix, but it also opens every port on that computer. Not to insult your intelligence, but that is not necessarily a good thing.

well software firewall is good enough for me, since the dlinks nat firwall is anoying as shit

It might not be the best way but with my D-Link router I found the easiest way to make sure only the ports I want are open/forwarded was to give all of my PC's fixed IPs on my side and use the Virtual Server option to forward specific ports to specific IP's... Another helpful side effect of doing it this way is I've pointed specific ports (such as the H323 port) to a non-existent IP's because for some reason the D-Link struggles to close/stealth some ports - although I suspect that's my fault and not the routers.
