Little update needed in FAQ

I just read this in the FAQ (http://www.vcdquality.com/index.php?page=faq#xvid) :

quote:
DivX is a format designed for multimedia platforms. It uses two codecs, one low motion, one high motion. most older films were encoded in low motion only, and they have problems with high motion too. A method known as SBC (Smart Bit-rate Control) was developed which switches codecs at the encoding stage, making a much better print. The format is Ana orphic and the bit-rate/resolution are interchangeable. Due to the higher processing power required, and the different codecs for playback, its unlikely we'll see a DVD player capable of play DivX for quite a while, if at all. There have been players in development which are supposedly capable, but nothing has ever arisen. The majority of PROPER DivX rips (not Re-Encs) are taken from DVDs, and generally up to 2hours in good quality is possible per disc. Various codecs exist, most popular being the original Divx3.11a and the new XviD codecs.
DVD players capable of playing DivX movies are widely available these days.

www.vcdhelper.com?

IIRC, this domain was long ago under the ownership of vcdhelp.com/dvdrhelp.com/videohelp.com, but it appears to be a trojan dropper site now. (Unless vcdq.com gets a commission for traffic directed there? In which case, leave it - those with unsecure browsers deserve to get infected! )

vcdhelper.com.. thats a story i havent told in a while...

a long long time ago back in 1999 I worked at a small isp.. We had a single burstable t1.. We paid for 512kbit burstable to 1meg.. anyway there was this site at www.freespeech.org/vcd i think was the url.. anyway it was called vcdhelper.. I bought vcdhelper.com and offered the guy free hosting and use of the domain name.. anyway everything was fine for a few months.. his site was getting bigger and better and was using 1mbit/sec by itself. We had to upgrade our line to full 1.5 mbit.. we struggled to pay for the full t1 for a couple months after that and eventually the extra cost oost of the faster line was too much for the small isp to pay. The whole time I was hosting the site for baldrick he was running banner ads on the site and making money. When our t1 bills were too much for us to pay and begun to stack up I asked baldrick for some money to help pay the bill. He sent me ~$225 then bought vcdhelp.com and got hosting somewhere else.. and left us unable to pay for our t1 and we ended up going out of business several months later.
To this day baldrick has refused to speak with me regarding what happened back in 99/00.. SOOO.. thats why a long time ago I put popups/trojans/anything nasty I can find on vcdhelper.com to try and make a buck and piss off his users..

so anyway.. thats my story..
okay I'm going to dissapear for another 6+ months.. lol
