Well, you have to take other approaches to change the file type. You can't just put any video file onto a DVD. You can place most on a VCD, which are playable in most DVD players. I have not yet found a DVD player (including a generic brand that I have never heard of) that cannot play VCD's. If you want to put the file onto a DVD, I would use your Windows Movie Maker and see if you can select the video file, and import it into your movie maker. It will be an extremely long process, so I recommend that you find time before doing so. If your movie is seperated into multiple movie files, you can import them and make them into one movie file with Windows Movie Maker. After you import them, and have them all on the timeline in the correct order, you can then save your movie (which may take up to 4 or 5 hours, depending on the quality you choose to save it as). After it saves, it will automatically be saved as a .wmv file, which is compatible for DVD writing. If you have any other questions, or concerns regarding this matter, then let me know. I just might be able to help you.
If you are having problems with your video file, then I suggest you try searching for a better source and better rating of quality of this particular film, and then placing it onto a DVD. If all else fails, it never hurts to use your Windows Movie Maker.
