heres a question I havent gotten an answer too yet

Why is it that groups are making CAMS in SVCD when no cam is worthy of SVCD format... why has the scene lowered its standers on this??? am I the only one that feels this way?

Because VCD's are shit. How is it lowering "standers" by not restricting the quality as much?

lol.

Technically its not LOWERING the standards. Lets pretend somone cams a movie with a 1CHIP mini-dv consumer cam. The quality produced by a vcd formatted file is still lower quality than a shitty dv cam. Or atleast thats how it makes sense to me. SVCD offers a higher bitrate and a little more flexibility. vcd was good back in the day, but its time to move ahead.

I guess he meant the source is shit so why bother waste it on an SVCD, & its the groups being lazy, perhaps

It depends on the source. If the source is ok/good then why not make use of the SVCD format. If its not so good, VCD saves a bit of bandwidth. Besides SVCD seems to be coming defacto these days. Also with lots of people on fast connections, no one cares about and extra few hundred meg a rls extra.

A thought I had as well, but I find it interesting that xvids (divx) seem to be popular, thus bring us back full circle as they require much less bandwidth to download then a 2 or 3 cd SVCD. And many fit on one CDR as well.

The worst source in the world is going to look even worse when it's put on VCD, it should be made totally obsolete.

i usually think that any cam should be released as an svcd because they seem to look better. for example 'domino' by UNiTED was from the same source as FUCK, but UTi got it and released it as a vcd, and look how much more pixelated it is than any other releases done by FUCK.

however, was BaPH's release of 'Lord of war' worthy of an svcd? i think not. the 'quality' was a heap of shite, it had a horrible tilt and angle, fucking auto-brightness which kept changing from bright to dark in every scene. ARRGH i almost wanted to punch myself and i only got the sample! if it had been a vcd (smaller size) it wouldve been better as a temporary copy for most people but instead it had a friggin 1.8GB, waste of 3CDS, when a VCD couldve made it around the 1.1GB mark, and one less cd.

but if its a good source, SVCD is always better. ok UNiTED???

encoding software is the equivalent of The 404 going on a diet and walking thru the door. takes longer and sometimes more skill, but ultimately worth it.

At this point, pretty much everything should be DivX or XviD or something else that uses InterCapitalisation in its name.

SVCD as cam? well NOT many deserve it, but I want quality where its due... ORC and Angel deserve to label a SVCD cam... now for silvers, VCD all the way... thats my 2 cent, but others may disagree (if its gonna be 2 disks anyway then Id want SVCD)

pfffffffff

ya i personally havent 'burned' a vcd or svcd .. cam/ts/dvdscr nada... in years.. i watch it in one of many possible tv-out options. both formats are certainly showing their age. time to grab that xvidquality.com domain eh ;P

xvid/dvdr for the win. could totally do away with /svcd dvdrip's as well. useless.

and the gaytasticly lame sub-section of the scene that has cropped up.. known as 're-encodez0ring ANYTHING for PSP' .. fags.
