avi to dvd problem (not found answer by browsing)

hi

i have just recently starting converting avi's so that i can watch them on a dvd player (this is until i bother to buy a dvix player)

iam using winavi to convert them...and iam leaving basically all the options as default. one of the options is that it will put a chapter marker every 150 seconds.

when watching the dvd on a standalone (ive tried a couple with the same results) it begins fine..and towards the middle of the chapter the audio begins to drift out of sync with the video, until the beginning of the next chapter when the screen goes blocky for a millisecond before correcting itself. rinse, repeat.

i can correct it by pausing the movie and resuming it, the audio is then synced with the video again... until the middle of the next chapter when it begins to drift once more...

this is the same with every film i have converted (about 8 or 9) and on both standalone dvd players i have tried.

its bloody annoying.

any suggestions ?

thanks

You might wanna check out one of the guides at doom9.org
Using CCE will give you the best results.

Go to
doom9.org -> Guides -> Format Conversion -> AVI to DVDR

Righht now I use CCE for converting... I used to use WinAVI but foudn that CCE will give much better video results. It's not as straightforward as WinAVI though, and requires some investment of time and perhaps also the use of AviSynth, or at least that's what I do (for resizing the video, since CCE doesn't automatically force 720X480 for NTSC). At least the version I have doesn't. In conjunction with dgpulldown, it's also great for converting PAL SVCD's or AVI's to NTSC DVD's. The benefit of using pulldown vs. something like WinAVI is that you can have a higher bitrate for the same length of video.

Maybe Im doing this all for nothing, lol
I use Tmpeg to convert formats to mpeg2, extract the sound & join.
Then burn with DVDit,never any problems. Using chapter search,fast-forward ect.

winavi sucks balls for me. the sound has glitches like every 2 seconds. it sometimes freezes converting scene dvdrips aswel. tried robots and a porno one and both froze halfway. it seems ok if i reauthor with tmpgenc dvd author though...

for svcds i use tmpgenc plus as its better quality for all those svcd telesyncs!

dont download dvd-r's myself yet. i have 576k broadband on a contract till november and it therefore takes me like 2 days to dl one. im too impatient for that!
