AVI>SVCD Sync problems

I downloaded Lost 2x01 (lost.201.hdtv-lol.avi) last week, and used TMPEGEnc to convert it over to SVCD to watch downstairs (my DVD player doesn't do DivX).

The problem is that throughout the episode, the audio starts going out of sync, more and more as it goes along.

I think I know the source of the problem, in that LOL's encodes sometimes "hitch" on a frame here and there. On the PC, that doesn't matter, because of how it's spooling from the hard drive.

When I use TMPEGEnc, I have to split off the audio first into a WAV (it doesn't like the MP3 audio for some reason), and then recombine them into the SVCD file.

Now, this may be my player.. it's a Sony NS575, and it sometimes has sync problems of it's own with DTS audio tracks on normal store-bought DVDs. In both cases (DTS and SVCD), I can "fix" the problem by stopping the disc and restarting (just hitting Stop, then Play, it picks up where it was, and the audio is re-synced until it starts to go out again after five or ten minutes).

Is it my player alone causing this, or is there something I can do during the conversion that might fix the problem?

Or, more ideally, is there a source for pre-made SVCD versions of the episodes? I don't need specifics, since I know that's against the TOS, but a simple "yes" or "no" will suffice.

if i remember correctly changing VFAPI Plugin environmental variables (Direct show multimedia file reader to priority of 2) sorts out a lot of audio problems on tmpgenc
