I'm a bit puzzled?

The NFO says the source was a NTSC retail DVD-9 but there is no mention of extended scenes in that.

Also, does this release include the forced subtitles for the foreign dialogue?

use AVISUB to hardcode the subtitles (srt/sub/idx files) to the avi
thats the easiest way if you happen to convert your avi's to dvd. not sure how the subs are packed (whether they are sub and idx or just plain srt's) some standalone dvd players wont play srt files.
my 2 cents. would like to know what the added scenes are as well.

And how does AviSub know which lines need subbing and which are already in English?

Also, every website I've checked lists the forthcoming "special edition" as being 149 mins, not 174

But it's not Region-1 or Region-2 which covers most of the world so I'd hardly call it a "worldwide release". As far as I can tell Region-4 will have the only true English language version.

Having played this release in synch with the R3 DVD on the same screen I have to say this transfer is surprisingly good quality when viewed on a PC. Audio is also excellent but panning sequences are laughable when viewed on my stand-alone player. Turning off full subs does cause forced subs to appear in the correct places contrary to what was posted above, at least on my machine.

The extra footage begins during the book-signing and consists of some inconsequential banter between Langdon and his readers.

from skipping through the pic is a bit soft and there are a lot of compression artifacts (especially in dark scenes), as you'd expect from a movie this long. not bad at all though, looks ok on a CRT tv.

saw this at the cinema, and it fucking sucked. maybe the extra half hour will improve things.

I don't see how your 'The Da Vinci Code (2006) *EXTENDED* *XviD* - DVDRIP - FLAiTE' has hard coded subs in the correct places and mine doesn't.
The film either has no subtitles or full subtitles with the sub pack. It's either all or none.
Turning subs off on your player to get correct subs is quite amazing. Where you get your player from? The bloke off 'Click'?

But this is the xvid thread. How do I select other subtitles, let alone 1, on an xvid disc? As far as I know, I can't.

It's a Pioneer DV-575A with enhanced third-party firmware. I extracted both CD's, both sub files and both index files and burned them to a single data DVD. The remote handset gives me the option of full English, Spanish and Portugese subs plus "off". Selecting "off" causes the forced English subs to appear. There's no fifth option. The same is true for the extended-DVD which I've also got.

Thank you for your reply. I was under the impression that in order to get subs to appear on an xvid, you needed to hard code them using VobSub or similar.
I will test this out tonight.
Many thanks if just dropping all the files onto a DVD actually works.
