Monitor and DVI cable

I currently have a Samsung monitor running through VGA ouput, I am getting a new monitor as of Monday.

I am seriously considering this monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...6824001088#spec
It comes with the DVI cable, It states it has a dvi-d cable.

I have a GeForce 6200
specs
agp 8x
128mb ddr

I think it takes the dvi-i cable.

Does anyone know anything about this? I haven't had to deal with dvi. A friend of mine had to modify his cable to get it to work. Or is there an adaptor I should buy?

Any info would rock.

I am seriously thinking about this monitor now. I can't decide for the $20 more I get 1 inch, lol. No pun intended. It's got the glossy screen which I fucking love, I think Samsung is one of the best brands for monitors I have ever used/seen, But It might be time for a change.

Pray for Mojo

I'd recommend the 20.1", I use one myself. If you're happy with the specs of the 20.1, GET IT. $20 for an extra inch is nothing!

Well it becomes an extra $35 because of shipping but oh well.

You know, I have been looking at nothing but widescreen, How important is widescreen when it comes to a monitor?

I won't ever buy a 4:3 tv, But what about a monitor? I can think of using opera in a portion of the screen and then watch tv on the other portion and it both be decent size, and opera will be normal size.

Which is better 4:3 or 16:9 for a monitor?

right, But there are different types of dvi connections, for example dvi-i dvi-d and I believe there is one more type of dvi connection.

Woof I say

What is the difference between DVI-D, DVI-A and DVI-I?
DVI-D cables carry a digital video signal. DVI-A carries a high-quality analog signal. DVI-I cabling has the flexibility to carry both DVI-D and DVI-A signals.

What does single link or dual link mean?
DVI-D and DVI-I connectors come in single link and dual link formats. Dual link DVI has more pins and allows for a higher resolution and faster refresh rates. Single link can display up to 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz and dual link can display up to 3840x2400 @ 41 Hz.

Is there one type of connector that fits all DVI plugs?
Yes. Since DVI-I can carry all the DVI formats the DVI-I dual link female connector is the universal mate for all DVI male connectors. That connector looks like:

Every DVI male will fit into this connector.

What if I have a cable but need to a different plug to fit my device?
You may be able to use a DVI adapter. Shop for DVI Adapters. A simple adapter will not be able to convert a digital signal such as DVI-D to an analog signal such as VGA. See why.

What is the longest DVI cable I can get?
This is a complicated issue. The DVI specification is only for 5 meters (16 feet); however we sell many longer cables that display the desired image perfectly. For longer cables we use thicker wire. For very long lengths you may need a repeater. If you have a lot of distance between the device generating the images and your display and would like our opinion on the feasibility and appropriate cable(s) please give us a call @ 800 278 4002.

What if I need DVI on one end of the cable and something else on the other?
There are many different types of digital connecters. Please refer to our Digital Video Connection Guide for the appropriate cable with different connectors at each end.

Dude, not gonna lie....Widescreen is ****ing ridiculous. Once you go widescreen you'll HATE normal resolutions
it's more workspace, because your eyes naturally see in widescreen, and it just helps productivity a lot too with multi-tasking

i can't really explain it to you but if you get that 20.1" monitor, I swear to God you're going to fall in love with widescreen

Let me just say that when I got my monitor, SIX people I personally know actually BOUGHT one within the first two months of me owning it

My buddy purchased a 21inch widescreen gateway and it's lush

My bro went to best buy and purchased a 17inch gateway for $199 It's a nice monitor as well, but I want something bigger. I'm going to build him a pc here before long. His current computer is Celeron 900mhz with 256mbits of ram. He can't run the monitor in its native res, So it's set on 1024 x 768 and it's stretched, But it's still really clear, and it looks way better than his crt he had. He had a 14inch crt about 12 years old. It was shot.

I'm pretty much set on the 20.1, I so can't wait to order it, I get paid Monday and then I'm ordering that mother fucker.

Kay you have the dual Dell monitors right?

Admin?

***NEVERSOFT'S PET-PEEVE OF THE DAY***

#146 - People who get their bits and bytes mixed up

Para, there are 8 bits in a byte. You meant 256MB (megabytes are indicated by using upper case) not 256Mb which would amount to 32 megabyte.

I wouldn't normally care but you've got it wrong about 3 times in three days so I thought I'd be pedantic/a cunt and point it out

I actually went to a local store today and purchased my monitor, I took my mother and my gf, they kind of talked me into a 22inch monitor, It's a Chimei which I never heard of until I saw the monitor on newegg.

The black levels aren't the best, and the light does bleed from the sides. But for the price $269 it's fantastic. The light on the sides doesn't bother me one bit. the black levels do a bit. But I can deal with it.

Overall the monitor got really good reivews, and it barely fits on my desk.

I'm loving it.

The only problem I have with it is, It feels to big at time. While. I don't know how to view web pages, Right now I have it in the middle, but I see more desktop than I do screen, which is nice for multitasking but for practical use it might be to big.

I just have to learn to use the screens size.

The only problem I have with this is because the resolution is so high, dvd's and Xvids etc. don't look that good. HD looks good though. lol.

I'll get used to it.

I thought my 20.1" was gargantuan when I got it, but after a few weeks of use it felt normal, and now anything smaller is tiny

I have no doubts I will get used to it.

I was speaking with Candyman on the phone earlier, and told him that I paid $269 before tax, He thought it was a bit much. The size of the monitor it's dirt digity. It also came with the dvi cable. Reviews were very favorable for my monitor.

I could have gotten a 19inch for under $200 anywhere. I wanted something bigger.

My bro bought a 17inch widescreen for $199, but he was impressed with the picture and it got fantastic reviews.

My golden rule, Quality over Quantity.

::edit::Just wondering. I know that the resolution on my monitor is much higher than on a 37inch flat panel lcd tv.
If I change my resolution the picture of a dvd doesn't look superb? As if I was watching it on a tv?
