Divx DVD player

I'm thinking of buying a cheapo DVD/DivX player for when i work away, any suggestions?

Also do you just burn the avi as data disc and can you add chapters?

pjeer?

If you don't mind putting in a little bit more effort, get a second hand xbox (original, not 360) soft mod it (buy an action replay and a copy of splinter cell, spend 5 minutes doing the piss easy crack, then sell them back on to someone else) and install XBMC which is hands down better than any divx dvd player you'll buy in a store.

phillips p-642. i got one for $40 a while back and never looked back. burn a data cd or dvd and watch all titles. the only codec it doesn't work with is QPEL, which most folks don't use anymore anyways.

You looking for a portable?

Philips has portable I've seen at CostCo that allows you to throw in your ipod, and SD disk, or even a USB drive (likely flash only).

Forgot the model.... but was impressed nonetheless.

The One, The Only

Philips 5960/37 or the newer model which I can't remember the # of. I saw it around town this week for $59.

I own two, has USB for removable stuff and plays pretty much everything.

The XBOX is about as portable as a concrete block. (I'll be working abroad and need to take it on a plane)

I'm just looking for a small DVD/Divx player i can plug into a TV.

I'll check out the Philips ones.

Cheers

pjeer?

If concrete blocks are so unportable, why do so many get thrown through my windows huh? HUH?

OK, point taken. It's a shame MS never did a Sony and redesigned the original Xbox after a few years, I'm sure they could slim it down a ton now.

Yeap, Philips is the way to go if you travel aboard: Most of them support both systems (PAL for most of Europe, NTSC for the US) make sure you check out the specs, BUT none of the "desktops" support more than one voltage (120V ofr US and 220V for Europe). The portable ones (the ones with the lcd screen, eg. PET824/17 do support multiple voltages on their transformer and can be connected on both PAL/NTSC TVs)...
