Solid for a screener - no complaints
m: hmmm.... I read the book. The book glorified aspects of US policy that I think everybody regrets to some extent now.
The film plays fast and furious with some of the facts, actually, especially towards the end when it shows a big push to rebuild post-Soviet occupied Afghanistan which did not in fact happen. It just didn't.
The film also seriously downplays one aspect, that while the US provided 50% of the funding they in reality had 0% of the control of the money - either to whom it went or how it was spent.
In the current situation, it might've been worth noting that we, meaning the US, unwittingly funded the establishment of the Taliban by giving Pakistan and the Saudis control of the distribution of millions of US dollars to the Mujahadeen.
So... 8 for entertainment, 5 for accuracy and 3 for failing to seriously touch the ramifactions of US policy during the Soviet Afghan war.
