hi chaps, its been awhile, i was pretty cut up when neversofts mum dumped me so Ive been laying low.

back to business,
recently i tried to change from windows to linux kubuntu gutsy,
everything loaded perfectly but the raw form of the os looks shit ......

so i wanted compiz fusion. Now with windows when you want to load a program you just press run then install....easy.

but fuck me, trying to load anything on linux takes a series of fuckin command lines with root access and all sorts of other shit.

put it this way, 8 hours of fucking around and still no compiz fusion. just getting the proper graphics drivers to load and work was a fucking nightmare.

am i the only dipshit that seems unable to master this potentially wicked os ??

since i get vista ultimate for free its back to vista for me.

Never really got into Linux. Used a few live CD's\DVD's as demos and never found it very intuative so never stuck with it.

Windows may be the established norm, but breaking into Linux, even for a very computer literate person can take a fair bit of effort and commitment, for what could be described as limited return.

Windows does suck at a lot of things it does, but Linux has never been the obvious choice, better just to manually workround/patch/avoid Windows probs.

Saying all that, the penguin sliding down the snow mountain game is pretty cool

Most power distributions are going to be worth the move to Linux if you're willing to be patient and put in the time (including participating in linux forums).

The newer distros based on debian (like *unbutu) are almost as easy as Windows.

You want something complicated try something BSD-based or Slackware, and not the newer versions, that are also tailored more toward desktop use.

The only current box I use Linux on is non-gui. Been using it for over 4 years, on 24/7, and is more used than any other PC.

I suggest trying the normal Ubuntu, or Fedora. Than again PCLinuxOS is damn sexy, I need to give that one a try.

I installed Debian on sister's PC, she never had used Linux before. She never went back to Windows.
