Scifi Movie/Anime Recommendation Thread.

Like a lot of people on here, I'm pretty big into Sci-fi movies, tv shows etc. Have seen most mainstream stuff so I thought I'd start a thread to get your recommendations for my next sci-fi fix. Lately I've seen:

Dark City : Similar to the Matrix but with more substance. Dark, deep, intelligent and trippy. Great movie.

Appleseed Ex Machina : Beautiful graphics, nice action and a great soundtrack. Not much of a story though but worth checking out nonetheless.

Solyaris: Watched this a few years ago but thought I'd mention it. A benchmark movie. Left a lasting impression on me, a masterpiece.

So give me some of your recommendations, mainstream, obscure or otherwise

Bitter, miserable twat.

As you know, I'm into a bit of sci-fi now and then.

I keep meaning to check out Blade Runner The Final Cut. The Director's Cut was one of my favourite sci-fi films ever.

Also want to see Mad Max 2 - apparently the Blu-ray/HD DVD releases feature the uncut version previously only available on a rare Japanese DVD.

Can't let a sci-fi thread go without mentioning Star Wars. There's a couple of new fan-made DVDs around now. For purists there's the LFL Pwnage Edition that features the original mono sound mix which has never appeared on any official home video release, and for revisionists there's adywan's Revisited edit which is getting some good reviews.

Not really into anime, but my son loves Sonic X at the moment.

Dark City sounds not bad at all, will give it a bash

Sci-Fi in general has been quite poor in the last couple of years imo, not many big screen titles to pick n choose from

One that I have seen recently and quite enjoyed is "The Man From Earth". Not your typical run of the mill, special effect filled action fest but a low budget thinking mans film about a group of people debating the idea of a 10,000 year old man and what his life would be like.

http://imdb.com/title/tt0756683/

Hey Mother, sent you a pm about a week ago but you've kinda answered my question now so.

Downloaded a 720p version of Blade Runner The Final Cut ages ago but didn't watch it yet. Gonna wait until I get myself a nice high def tv first.
Also have Adywan' edit but I've yet to watch it.

Gonna check out "The Man From Earth" tonight, nice one Yuri Tard.

Watched The Thirteenth Floor again recently, forgotten how good it was. Was released about a month before The Matrix so was obviously overlooked by many.

Dark City was awesome, also Strange Days with Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Lewis Another unmissable is Virtuosity, starring Denzel Washington and Russel Crowe before they disappeared up their own arses.

Not to everyone's taste but could be interesting to some.
