I use tune-up utilities and it works a treat.

Registry repair is another worthy app.

Yes, they do help keep your pc in good shape.

but

What do I know..

I use the version of Registry Mechanic bundled with System Mechanic but only as a last resort. Changing registry entries can often create more problems than it solves. I wouldn't touch an online registry scan with a barge pole.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I was over at my mates place friday, he had a bug on his pc he asked me to clean

after a 20 minute conversation on where he has been and what he has clicked on, I found out that he was browsing for porn using Ie and a window appeared saying that his pc needs to be cleaned

end of story
We all know the moral to this don't we.......

Admin?

The one in Tune-Up utils works quite well and hasn't caused me any issues. Generally speaking it only removes invalid entries (like pointers to non-existant files) so they're relatively safe... and TuneUp allows you to roll-back changes anyway.

Jigglyjunk

I prefer Revo Uninstaller on a frexh XP install. Cleans up after uninstalls.

jv16 is your best bet if you not a big fan of installing your OS often (I image once every 2-3 months).
