Global Warming!!

Well as usual the 4x4 get the blame for this, and i do own a Toyota Hilux Surf 3.0 td with a safari snorkel
What most don't realise is that a few clubs do help when the flooding and people become trapped and help there local area out, but as of late "green laneing" keeps getting bashed and councils are slowly closing down some areas that was permitted to use for off road fun which sucks big time, and will cause some people to do off roading illegally in areas they not supposed to.
Reason i'm posting this is cause i was just out back with my dog playing fetch and a plane vapour trail was trailing the plane, now wouldn't it be a cause of jet fuel released into the air that is causing the north pole ice to melt away as they are a lot closer to the atmosphere than cars are and i am sure there are some country's that don't have as strict a rules as is the case in the uk

Now i know fossil fuels don't help and that but maybe it's about time they started looking at the planes and fighter jets and cargo planes as well

What you think???

That is actually a good point. I don't know how many planes there are in the air at any given hour but I bet its a dam lot! Planes burn fuel at a rate that puts cars, even 100 cars, to shame. But what are you going to do? I don't think they can make a fuel cell for a plane and if they could it would cost billions to make and then more billions for the airline industry to implement into their planes. And we all know they don't like to spend money to start with.

A Canadian scientist invented a "carbon scrubber" I can see an invention like this helping alot if they develop it.

Global warming is not bullshit. It has happened many times before in Earths history. Last time it happened it was the cavemans fault for farting too much, this time its down to Kevins driving unnecessary 4x4's

Admin?

ok, I'm not siding with the doomsday brigade (cos I think a lot of it is scaremongering) but it doesn't take a genius to work out that we've been pumping shit into the air exponentially for the last couple of hundred years and that probably isn't a good idea... and isn't it better to err on the side of caution and to try and reduce the shit that we put out anyway, considering that we don't really know the consequences?

For those of you that are convinced those gasses just want to hug the clouds and wont hurt anything, be my guest and suck on the exhaust and keep all of those juicy life-giving vitamins for yourself

At what cost though? I too don't have any problem with reducing the waste we produce, but the wackos take it to the extreme. Hybrid cars today are a joke (expense versus actual savings), most alternative forms of energy are too costly for the average consumer and they totally ignore the changes made in protecting the environment when it comes to extracting oil, natural gas and coal and using those same resources to power the world. Nuclear power is one way to go but again you have your extremist totally against it due to the possibility of a "China Syndrome" among other things (which most scientists agree could never happen)

We are really years away from replacing our current sources of energy with alternatives so why not allow us to use those resources that are currently inexpensive and readily available?

All I can say is Screw the Caribou Drill Alaska!!!!

Illegal Alien

The Next Global Hoax

This isn't the first time the Global pimps have tried to scare the World to squeeze out tax dollars for more bogus experimentation, gives good science a bad name. (Junk)

Who remembers:
1. Acid Rain
2. The Rain forests debacle. Telling the world if we cut down the trees there, we won't have oxygen. But for us that took those boring science classes know that most oxygen comes from plankton under the ocean.
3.Global Warming. Temperatures will rise.
4. Global Warming (revised now)To cover up for this junk science, they have revised their position to, " It going to cause the next Ice Age." Laughable!

Global IceAge

It's a shame that Al Gore actually has people listening to him on this subject, he is even seen as a authority on Global Matters.. Yea, the guy that created the internet will now save us all from the next global hoax, as he jet sets across the globe in his private jet.

This was supposed to go under ripper's topic " Global Warming "

::EDIT:: Now it does - NS::

Yep, this coming from a guy who drives a huge 12 passenger van, and a second vehicle which happens to be an SUV. The Prius isn't that expensive $21,000-29,000 which is rather practical for a car. My buddy drove his Prius when we went to Indiana, he spent under $30 for gasoline there and back, that also includes driving around in the city. Yet hybrids are a joke? When you have a Cadillac Escelade hybrid you have a very valid point, cause the gas mileage is still shitty.

Yep, Drill baby Drill right? Well how is that going to help us NOW? Easily it won't. We have about 3-5% of the worlds oil supply in the U.S. Yet we use 20-25% So I don't see how drilling is going to help us? If it does we weon't see any resolution at the pumps for the first 10 years, instaed we need to look into alternative energy for our childrens sakes, and our childrens childrens. Clean coal, solar, wind, hell even nuclear energy. We need to stop relying so heavily on oil.

Yet the talk 2 months back about drilling has caused the price to drop (and to continue to do so) with a slight hiccup due to Hurricane Ike.

I agree we should look at alternatives. Hell my Science Fair Project in 8th grade (1980) was a solar powered remote control car so even then solar power was conceivable a good alternative yet here we are almost 30 years later and I've yet to see any solar power car that is in production or even economical. Most cynics (----> para) will claim that Big Auto and Big Oil have prevented the development of alternative sources yet if you look at their R&D you can see that both have invested a ton of money and time into other alternatives. Businesses exist for one reason: to make money. So trust me, if their is money in alternative sources, Big Auto and Big Oil will me in the middle of it. And any person who believes in Capitalism (so that excludes you democrats) would be perfectly fine with it.

Studies have proven that with most hybrids the extra cost takes years (5 or more) to be offset by the savings at the pump. And the costs to develop them are high as well. Yet why are automakers producing them? Because of the government (democrats) and lobbyist who continue to feed the American people a line of bullshit about the dire need for alternatives now even if they'll cost you more than you can afford. $21,000-$29,000? Out of my price range and I wonder how many members here would buy one if they could even afford it. A Prius might be good for a few people but how in the world would I run my business out of one? And para, as many times as you've been in my van (the blue and white one) you didn't realize they're 15 passenger vans, lol? Which I need for my business for the passenger capacity even if I only get 9 city, 11 highway. The SUV (crossover) I recently bought, a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica, can hold 7 people which is one of the reason I bought it as it allows me to pick up my kids, girlfriend and her son yet have room for 2 more and use it as a backup vehicle for my business if my van needs to be in the shop thereby allowing me to continue working. Plus the Pacifica gets about 24 miles on the highway, 19 around town which is still twice as good as my van so in the long run I'm saving the equivalent of my car payment in gas each month. And I paid less than for a Prius, and the Pacifica has all the options including a DVD entertainment system for the kids that plays burned dvds, save AWD which sucks more gas so I think when I compare the two I'd go with the Pacifica any day of the week, twice on Sunday.

What I don't get para is for some one I thought was intelligent, you seem, like many others, to fall for the rhetoric about the reason not to drill coming out of the democrats/enviromental wacko mouths. Yet if we had drilled ANWR (Anwar) back in 93-94, which if my math is correct was 14 years ago, we'd have more oil wouldn't we? But thank Clinton for vetoing against it. His reason? The same as yours, "it won't be available for 10 years so won't help us now." Wonder what we would be paying at the pump for the past 4 years we had drilled.

A prius on average gets about 50mpg, which is double your pacifica. I like your pacifica, not my choice in a vehicle but not a bad SUV. You have the mentality like most Americans, Bigger is better. More is best.

Of course a Prius is to damn expensive for you. You always prefer quantity over quality. When's the last time you went for quality? You have how many computers? Imagine if you would have put all that money into one or two computers? I guess it's the conservative way.

Your whole post says one thing, Oil is still our future. We need to be dependent on oil for the rest of our lives. If we do this we'll always get raped at the pump, and it'll get worse.

If they wanted to drill here in the US. they should have done it 30 years ago. It's to late in the game, We have 3-5% oil supply here, We consume 20-25% of the worlds oil supply, So how in the fuck is drilling going to help? Sure if you ask Sarah Palin we have 19% of the worlds oil right here, which is DEAD WRONG.

You're answer is to drill, which will leave us dependent on oil, Hybrids are a start and we need to continue down that road and find alternatives, find a way to harness nuclear energy. Put more money into solar/wind energy.

Why not use natural gas in our cars? It wouldn't cost that much and we have the resources. http://gas2.org/2008/04/29/natural-...of-the-country/

Yet drilling is the ONLY answer, get with the program man.

You said gas is cheaper because of the "talk" about drilling? WTF are you talking about? Were using the Winterblend gasoline which is always cheaper.
