Let the Right One In: It's a Vampire movie

Released Oct. 24 2008 Limited Release

There was no chance in hell I'd get a chance to see this flick in the theater. I found out there is a DVDSCR that was released, It's not the best quality I've seen but not bad.

I'm probably going to wait until Saturday to watch it.

Has anyone else on this fourm heard of it, or seen it?

It's getting fantastic reviews, I'm geekin to watch it.

I cut to feel

I was going to get this the other day, but didn't. I was actually telling the girlfriend about it today.

Note: There is going to be an English remake of this released next year. Who would have thought?

Saw it earlier this evening. It's very fresh. A vampire coming-of-age love story entirely for kids...loaded with material that is entirely adult.

The horror is really a sub-text to an entirely different movie; there's a fair amount of blood, but surprisingly little gore (bar some brilliant make-up in the hospital scene).

Other nice touches are built in. Check for the kids relationship with his father, for example. Questions left unasked let alone unanswered. That won't happen in the Hollywood version I bet, everything will need to be explicit and explained (twice!). As for the pre-teen sexual tension...

Really enjoyed it. Well made movie with a subdued atmosphere that's tense and menacing throughout.

8.3/10

(Reminded me of another Swedish horror, 'Frostbitten', that was around about 18 months ago. That was slick and funny and definitely far more standard fare, but also worth watching if Near Dark and/or The Lost Boys is your cup of tea.)

I just gave this a shot and came away very impressed.

One thing that really stands out in this movie is the cinematography of it, beautiful shots the way things line up and the way the cameras are placed, I wish more movies followed this trend it was actually where you can see art in many scenes just by the character placement and surrounding, I was really impressed by it.

Another thing which I'm sure will be slaughtered in any remake .. the child acting was superb. Lina Leandersson who played Eli had more presence on the screen then I've seen many seasoned actors, almost gave me chills in certain bits.

The story itself was good, one of the bits seemed a little tacked on for shock value that I guess added more 'flavor' to the mix but I feel wasn't necessary (won't give any spoilers) and I personally would of actually felt more of a connection and realism if it wasn't done that way (although from what I read that would of been changing it from the book as well -- so fans of the book wouldn't of agreed I'm sure).

I liked it, not without flaw but definitely a nice limited release that's worth checking out, have to agree with baha: 8+/10

Was I seeing things or did that 12 year old girl have a sideways Twat?

I hate to bring the tone down but that scene alone was one of the most disturbing things I have seen in a movie for a long time.

I wasn't sure what that was...and was watching it with a lass...so stopping to rewind and catch pre-teen pubes wasn't going to get me where I wanted

Just checked...and I'm not sure. It may be a scar...or it may have healed up. I'm going for the 'healed up' option. Vampires unable to procreate: sounds reasonable, eh?

But that's just another of the unasked questions that I was referring to.

Guess me trying to avoid it subtly didn't work out so ...

*** MAJOR SPOILER ***
When Eli says 'I'm not a girl' *he* doesn't mean it's because he's a vampire, he was turned into a vampire as chosen by the guy in the town way back when he was castrated, the blood gushed out and was then fed on from there, turning into a vampire. (this is only from the book, in the movie we only see eli talk about 'not being a girl' and we see the mutilated 'area')

this was the sub-plot I was referring to (without spoiling for people) that I didn't like and felt was tacked on, would much of rather preferred her to remain a her. Leave the 'i'm not a girl' line but just have it refer to her being slightly mutilated instead of in actuality being a boy. Just felt it tacked on yet another homosexual undertone to a vampire movie, cause that's never been done

Thanks for that punzada. And here was me thinking Vampire girls clouts must be the same shape as *Chinese womens.

*I actually met a girl once that truly believed me when I told her my Chinese ex-girlfriends pussy went sideways. She was not the sharpest tool in the box, great pair of tits though.

Just got done watching the movie, I gotta say I thought it was rather good.

I caught the line "I'm not a girl" and Eli asked Oskar if he would still like her if she was a boy, I had question there about her gender.

Since they hinted around about it, They should have given a bit of back story, Especially when Eli said be me, or whatever it was she said.

I enjoyed it, I actually enjoy it more without the gayness though, lol.

About the remake:

Why remake a perfect movie? That's the question that often floats in one ear and out the other. Here's the answer... if this film is foreign, nobody will show up to see it. [REC] is a perfect example and not a single person I know outside of the horror circle knows that the film was remade at QUARANTINE. So the safe can be said about Let the Right One In, which is critically praised and still could never make the big bucks at the box office. Hence the reason Matt Reeves is directing a remake for Overture Pictures. Inside you can read a bit about his plans for remaking one of this year's best movies.

MTV breaks down their conversation with Matt Reeves:

"Will he change the time period and locale? “I’m keeping it in the early 80s. I love the setting of it being in a snowy locale. I’ve been thinking of Colorado, maybe Littleton.”

On adapting the story for an American audience: “The movie and the book are incredibly Swedish yet there’s something so universal about the tale of this kid and something that in the context of an American story could be completely different while being very consistent with the original story. There’s something about it that can be an American mythic tale.”

On his love for the source material: “It’s a terrific movie and a fantastic book. I think it could be a really touching haunting and terrifying film. I’m really excited about what it could be.”

On his personal connection to the story: “I had such a personal reaction when I saw the movie and when I read the book. I felt like there was an opportunity to do something incredibly personal while still being in a genre arena.”

How he sees the story: “It’s an amazing mixture of a coming of age story and a really scary horror film. It’s touching and scary. It’s an incredibly touching love story and a really scary vampire movie.”

Through the eyes of a child? “I see the film as essentially being the fantasies of this 12 year old who’s having such a hard time. It would never be that overt where you would watch the movie and say that’s a dream but to me that is kind of an organizing principle.”

The film may be his next directing effort: “Overture wants it as soon as possible. They would love me to do it next so that’s what we’re shooting for at the moment.”
