Yeah I've been hearing good things about that setup, I absolutely *love* those wd passport drives and when I got my new one (500gb one, had a 160gb for must be two years already, self powered by a single usb cable, albeit short ones, and seem to be very reliable, I've dropped the 160gb on concrete and it's held up fine).
On topic, I don't really have an individual favorite gadget but I'm proud how my house is networked in it's entirety, all secured down while being basically transparent for all the hardware on it (routers/switches controlling the internet/voip to all the seperate windows/linux/game consoles, offering file sharing between all of them on secured protocols and being easy to monitor/control from nearly any piece of hardware including my cell).
