3D movies

So with all these 3D movies about to hit our screens,
Is there away to view this shit at home?

I've a light understanding of this tech, and know it's
Not the coloured card specks I'm talking about.

I know places need new hardware installed to show these movies, but are we talking just new projecters?

Until they agree a format they like I wouldn't bother - going to be another round of new fucking TVs. For now stick with the cardboard specs from Ebay.

The first gens are already doing the rounds, read a review of one last year.

It was a Philips 40(+)" TV that was being reviewed, list price of £20k. But Philips reckoned they'd have the same spec model commercially available for about £1k by 2011, so we're not far away at all. The only holdback is the fact there isn't enough content around to make it possible for them to produce/sell enough to launch at affordable prices.

Until they agree a format there's no sense in even considering the first gen TVs since you won't know what the broadcasters will be supporting.

3D technology, These TV's will we have to use those stupid glasses? If it displays a 3D image without the use of all that shit, then I'm game. This could be the next iteration in Movies/Gaming. Hell with some 1080p it's almost as if it's 3D in ways. The depth of perception is fantastic on some sources.

Yes these are without glasses but various models do it in different ways - and some still require "comfortable" glasses to get 3D viewing too.

I'm not sure where they stand on converting 2D to 3D, or supporting both formats at the same time yet.

Only 3D I have ever seen worth the entrance money was at futurascope in Potiers in France. They even have a 3D show projected onto a mist of water over a lake that you can watch from any angle.
Its there that all the Imax development takes place. The whole 3D thing is just a gimmick at the moment. And if para thinks that gaming looks 3D he needs glasses big time. What I'm trying to say is commercial 3D is light years away from being really viable, take a visit to futuroscope and you will know where I'm coming from.

Obviously you missed my point old man.

Maybe I worded it wrong, Maybe 3D is the wrong term. You get a sense of depth with a lot of HD content.

What I said, the next gen after the current, lol. I don't think we'll have 2080p for at least 10 years. lol.

I remember reading some time ago (yr or so) that there were these glasses that you wear that could do a 360 rotation around objects, these were with some kind of gloves (touch screen if i remember right) cant remember the company off hand will have a think and search them out, i know it was a prototype and could only use for an hour or so due to migrane

I went to an R&D facility in Ipswich about four years ago and was shown a few nifty gadgets that were under development. One of those was the 3DTV that didn't require any glasses.

The demo we were given was a Guinness advert involving a football which was kicked towards the screen and appeared to come out of the screen. Pretty fun stuff to watch but, as baha mentioned, the price needs to come down and the content needs to go up before it will become available.

No I didn't miss your point young man , Depth perception is a long way removed from 3D . You was just being all young and excited about gaming.

Pretty much like that only with a bit more depth , people turn up dressed up to the nines to watch (it's only done at night ,needs darkness) you can have a three course meal with waiter service at the lakeside while watching, its all done quite formal. French are bit anal when you think about it.

That's the important point though - a lot of sets, including the Nvidia developed ones, will be selling depth perception as 3D - sort of like a concave vs convex situation.

Personally, I'm waiting for augmented reality headsets

Admin?

The 3D tech that seems to be most popular at the moment is the one that requires you to wear those enormous Ray Charles-like specs to view it. I've seen a handful of 3D movies in the cinema over the last year or so and they all used an identical system - although it doesn't seem to work very well for me... Probably cos I'm colour blind and used to have a squint (fixed when I was a kid) so the focus for each eye is off and I get a double image - either that or the projectionist needs to find another job.

As for TV 3D technology, I suspect whichever one that wins in the UK is whatever Sky settle on:

I don't, but only because I don't think Sky will be around that long.
