Bitter, miserable twat.

Doctor Who finally gets HD treatment

Previously, Doctor Who has only ever been shown in SD (something to do with the amount of post-production time it would take to do the SFX in HD). However, in case you haven't heard, tonight's Easter special is in HD.

Looks like I'll be downloading it then, since I haven't got Freesat HD yet...

Be interesting to see if it's transmitted at 50 or 60Hz? Might be easier to make an NTSC DVD from the HD source if it's 60Hz? Also an AVCHD disc for North American PSP and BD players.

50Hz, of course.

Still, it would be a simple process to slow down the 25fps to 23.976fps for a NTSC DVD.

I've got the mpeg, it's just as easy to convert that to ntsc with DG-pulldown.

I know I can change the frame rate of the HD cap with TS muxer, but I doubt I'll get as good results as I do now with DG-pulldown.

Would also like to bung the standard definition extras onto the same AVCHD but that's a beyond my skills at present.

This was reasonably watchable. No need for HD though, it merely gave more definition to some hideous CGi. The swarm was just fucking dire, I haven't seen graphics like that since I sold my Amiga 500. .

I'm really not looking forward to the new younger doctor, he's younger than me ffs.

Wasn't Babylon 5 done on an Amiga? (Or am I thinking of The Chart Show?)

According to the audio commentary by executive producer Julie Gardner, that was the reason they haven't used HD before. The commentary is available for legal download here:

There are quite a few references to the HD version in it, mostly near the beginning.

Yeah but it had extra video hardware shoved up it's arse, they weren't "stock" Amigas IIRC.
