Vinyl or cassette tape to PC

Whats the cheapest way you can think of to get music from an old record on to a PC. I've already copied the record on to a tape if its cheaper to do tape to PC.

I don't want to spend much, if anything doing this because I'll only do it once.

Or... If anyone has Ultra Boogie - 'Head On' can you please PM me.

hmm does either your record player or current tape player have rca outputs? if so you may be able to find some type of rca->mini-stereo cable which will definitely plug into the mic port of almost any sound card and you could then hit play and record directly, i'm not much of an audiophile but that would be one route I would look into.

Will bottom for marmosets

Stereo phono to 3.5" cables are cheap and easy to find at Maplin - if you can't find an individual then buy their multi piece audio connection kit which is cheap as fuck, that has one in it.

Then probably use Tunebite to do the recording.

SILF

If you do go down the pute road run it through Adobe Audition.

Excellent piece of software which will bring it up to reasonable quality.

The old saying shit in shit out, you'd be better off getting the cd of fleabay.

That cd doesn't have one of the mixes off the 12", just happens to be the one I want.

I'll give the other stuff a try, there's a Maplin not far from me, i'll take a look.

If you end up in Maplin, the kit was (I think) around £6 and came in a blue zip up case. Lots of handy connectors in there, most gold plated.

definitely cool if you plan to do this sort of thing over and over but i'm sure it'll bounce up to over $100 before the auction is over and i'm pretty sure he's only looking to have a digital copy of this one track.

Bitter, miserable twat.

You can't normally just hook a turntable up to a PC - the signal has to go through a phono pre-amp first.

Cassette is easier as the levels are linear (but a vinyl capture will give much better quality).

I use a USB turntable similar to this and it's great.

My dad had loads of old 45's and loads of other vinyl. Got rid of all the pops and hiss. I can achieve at least CD quality sound.

Most of them ship with Audacity and other good filters and such.

Don't pay too much though.

Good Starting Price

"Cheapest" depends on what equipment you have lying around already. If you already have a turntable, an old amp or mixer with a phono input, then all you need to spend is a couple of quid on a cable.
