What about a DIVX-only standalone player..

paying attention to the quality of DIVX decoding, producing superior quality over a svcd/vcd/dvd/mp3/pamela anderson/bill clinton/george bush player.

some additional low cost models with only cdrom support and no dvd which will pay attention to mpeg4, giving the saved cost to output quality.

would sth like that make svcd preachers pay more attention to divx as a home cinema medium?

what about very low cost discmans with divx support? mp3 playback and watching divx movies on friends' tvs. like those 99999 mp3/vcd discmans that are on sale. higher costed since more cpu power is needed.
