Supreme Movie Overlord

Thumbs up Review: Head of State (2003) w/Chris Rock and Bernie Mac

When it comes to making comedies, none better than I think than Chris Rock, who makes his directorial debut with his movie Head of State.

Rock plays a political nobody named Mays Gilliam, he is about the be kicked out of his current job as neighbor alderman, but when his political parties front runner dies, they want him to run for President of the United States, and thats when the fun truly begins as Rock does a good job with the silly script that he also co-wrote.

Despite its inane plot, I honestly liked the movie despite seeing a bunch of rich folks try to dance to rap music.

I choose not to give the plot away, but seeing Bernie Mac in this movie gives it another plus. He plays Rock's brother who becomes his running mate, Robin Givens, yes I said Robin Givens has a good role playing Rock's ex-girlfriend who wants to get back together with him, and Tamala Jones, who believes in the political nobody.

I am giving this movie a marginal thumbs up, even though I truly did like the movie.

I would check out another movie similar to this, called The Distinguished Gentleman w/Eddie Murphy if you want similar laughs.

Head of State is rated PG13 for language, sexuality, and some drug use.

Head of State opens in theatres March 28, 2003

My rating: a 7 out of 10

Crazy Theatre Seal

Just got back from this.. it had some funny moments but was just disappointing overall. Chris Rock relies entirely too much on racial jokes and slap stick humor to get his humor across. By the end of the movie, the humor just gets so damn redundant it's not funny.

3/10

Supreme Movie Overlord

its too bad...had a good message though. I love the part of the movie..

Small Spoiler:

During the debates when he tried to get message across, about america...and the whole auditorium got up.. It was cool.

Also the end credits had some good extra scenes that should have made movies final cut.

Professional Cow Tipper

While waiting for my laptop battery to charge i decided to load up PDVD and watch this film.

Overall I found it very funny. Chris Rock's humor has been toned down a bit. (chris rock show, hbo specials) But that's because he wants to reach a broader audience. However, it still gets a laugh.

Bernie Mac does an excellent job of supporting cast. Do you know NATO Jenkins??? I didn't think so.

Moviegod wrote a great review so I won't bore u with repeat comments. I dig this flick. plain and simple.
and for the people who don't like chris rock's comedy, that's fine. just dont watch
7/10
