The title and sample pic might led you to believe this is some bizarre kiddie porno or something...

Actually, it's probably the most hilarious independent film of all time.

Great release.

pjeer?

i'd be interested to know your thoughts/feelings of the movie that you made being put on the internet for free?

i know some filmmakers have no problem with it, and like the free publicity and for more people to see their movie (for instance, i didn't know the film until now, but reading the nfo im interested in checking out a copy) whereas some see it as only a negative thing.

when it comes to the big corporations, i have no guilt in seeing things pass by for free. i think they fuck over the public anyway, so i think people should have the choice whether to pay up to $8 to see some piece of shit i could've done a better job at writing, but when it comes to independant movies each copy does actually count.

anyway, i'd just be interested on your views if you read this. cheers.

Call me old school, but I like to see my movies at the theatre. Which, you have to pay for. Now, if someone was to bootleg JANE WHITE on the internet? Well, what can I do? I put up my house, maxed out 23 credit cards, and spent four years of my life trying to make this movie, but if people want to steal product because, God-damn it they fucking deserve it...well, so be it. If you put a gun to my head, I'll give you my wallet too.

As far as corporations screwing the little guy? (1) Welcome to the US and (2) It costs a lot of money to make and release a film. A lot. In fact it cost more money to release my little nothing of a movie than it did to make it (from marketing to tape duplication to delivery requirements, etc.). Believe me, as a distributor myself (I own a company called The Asylum), you make money on a library of titles because just one film won't cut it. Even if a film makes a couple hundred thousand dollars in the marketplace, the amount that comes back to the producer and/or distributor bearly keeps the doors open.

Now the big studios...well, that's a whole different story (which I know nothing about). Yeah, screw them man.

pjeer?

thanks for replying, i appreciate it.

i'd love to work in the industry (and not for the bigger companys, as anyone who knows me knows how i try to spread the word of smaller films as much as i can) and i agree its sad that a lot of the people who are into "this game" don't follow the same self morals / rules that i try to.

when it comes to the big movie houses, then they don't really need my money, so i'd much rather "steal" (if thats the word they want to use. personally i dont, i'd rather say "duplicate" (which is being nice, as a svcd is hardly a duplicate of a 7gb DVD) as the original is still left in place) a Universal movie, and spend the money i saved in going to see City of God for the 3rd time.

the reason i work here and i agree with the freedom of information is that i think people deserve a choice whether to pay their money for whats likely to be a bad film. hell, i've purchased a lot of dvds/tickets for things due to the fact i've received a copy of something related in the past, so if anything the machine makes more money out of me due to the scene. i can't spend more money than i have, so i don't see how anyone can lose out because of me. if i see an independant movie i've never heard of on SVCD and i love it, then its likely i'll purchase a ticket to the movie if it ever plays here (sometimes does, sometimes doesn't) or the dvd when it hits stores, or the work of the director in the future.

i think when people decide that because they can get things for free, then they should stop spending thats where the problems begin. but i think luckily for people like you, these people are more interested in the films where the most conscious decision they make is what size popcorn they purcahse in the lobby on the way in. true fans of cinema use the internet and the fact its full of free movies as a way of either expanding their "watched" list and note down future purchases, or as a way of saying "fuck you" to the system for making people wait months for a release (in the UK we just had a release of The Hot Chick today. if i didn't see a pirate copy i might've been asked if i wanted to go. because i did see a copy (well. half a copy. it was utterly dire) i now have £4 to spend on a movie that *is* worth my money. i truly hope thats how other people see it, cos im sure im not alone.

i hope things go well in the future, and that you continue to make your movies. i've not seen the film, but if i have a chance now, im sure i will check it out. i haven't seen the pirate copy available, but due to its existance i now know of the films existance, so if my rental or ticket purchase means anything, at least theres been some positive outcome

thanks for taking the time out to answer me, cheers

Well, golly, you're welcome.

I just want to say (as a distributor and maker of films) that I see a LOT of crap from the no-budget guys as I do the high-budget guys. I don't think that anyone goes out to invest lots of money, devote months (but most likely years) of their time to make crap. It just happens. I hated PEARL HARBOR. Hated it. But I bet there are people who not only loved it, but will probably not watch any of my movies now because I slighted their film. On the crap side of low budget there are a lot as well.

I guess what I'm saying is that it's a creative media and you can't put your finger on what is going to work. Rob Schneider may have done THE HOT CHICK (which I haven't seen, but let's assume it was crap), but I'm sure he did it because he liked the material, the team putting it together, and that Rob's a genuinely funny guy and this material speaks to him. Yes he got paid well, but so what? He deserves it. A big studio needs to make big profits. They employee THOUSANDS of people. It doesn't matter for the end result to either work or not work accordingly.

There are plenty of people who hate my films. HATE MY FILMS. But I approached each one with the hope and promise that I'm doing my best and that I'm (hopefully) telling an interesting story. I don't think I'm selling out if I'm making a horror film (SCARECROW SLAYER) or erotic thriller (WILDFLOWER), or a tv show (MAX KNIGHT: ULTRA SPY). I just like telling stories and if I can make money for me and my family and my employees than great! And if I make a lot of money that's super great (well, I assume that will be super great...I'll let you know)! It's not the end all, but it's helpful and makes the years of struggling a little easier to bare.

In other words. People make money, and some lose their house. In any industry. But who cares? What is all comes down to is: did you like the film or not?
