pjeer?

afaik, u can't buy APEX players over here, which isn't so bad as you can get players that are better (from my experience anyway) for similar prices.

Tesco's do 2 dansai models, one 1010 for £85 and the 852 for £99. i think the 852 is the better model , but i haven't looked at the 1010 much. The main difference between Dansai and Apex player is the dansai has no trouble playing x(s)vcd burnt discs, so centropys vcds will play fine, and the pal<>ntsc converter is very good (and is macro disabled)

i have a 852 and for playing vcds, its the business. for £50-70 u aint gonna get much to be honest. spend a few quid more and u can get a decent player.

I bought an 852 after looking on lots of sites. It plays everything i've got (which ain't a lot), but DOES play SVCD. as well as VCD.

I use a Bush 2004, that is absolutely SUPERB for playing both DVD's, VCD's, SVCDS... in fact just about ANYTHING!!

It's got a built in Dolby 5.1 decoder, and will play jjust baout ANY brand of disk.

I don't think that they are available retail any more, Argos used to do them for around £179.99, then £159.99 on clearance.

Angry

Seems the good times could be over soon. Increasingly, the DVD players coming in from China are having their macro-disabling features disabled!

The new versions of Tesco's Dansai (1010) and Sainsbury's Mico Classica 20 players can still be made region-free using handset codes, but there's no getting rid of the macrovision this way.
