making timestamps and oher markings disappear

how do you get rid of timestamps and other identifying marks on mpgs?....i see some groups blur them out and they are barely even noticeable anymore....

i am willing to crop them with tmpgenc but id rather not ruin the aspect ratio....i am also willing to drop a black bar on top of these signitures....

also after creating vob files out of them..will the coverups be able to be removed?......i need them to be permanant

There are a number of different filters available for VirtualDub. Do a Google search. One of the simplest ones is called LogoAway.

I wouldn't recommend you do it on MPEGs, though, as you will need to re-encode the files, and you will lose a bit of quality in the process. Still, if you're converting MPEGs to DVD anyway, it doesn't really matter.

The removal/blurring will be permanent, and the logo cannot be restored.

as far as i'm aware, vdub is the only one that has well enough working filters to remove what you need, from there you can just use those encoding programs you mentioned to encode from avi->mpeg.

Neither of those will remove logos.

VirtualDub doesn't encode to MPEG. but You can save as an AVI (uncompressed, HuffyUV, etc) or frameserve directly to TMPGenc. for encoding.

Unfortunatly with these things, there is never a simple one-step solution, but it's really quite easy when you get the hang of it.
