Pray for Mojo

Ripping question

Ok I recently bought "The Critic" on DVD and I hate popping CD's in. Anyways I've never ripped a DVD before (This is actually the first DVD I own), and was wondering if someone could gimme a little help

If there's any info you need as to how the DVD is constructed, let me know.

Thanks

I'm sorta lazy about it, so I just use DVD Shrink 3.2 and take out the stuff I don't want (like foreign subs and alt. lang. tracks). Then I burn the image folders with Roxio.

Pangalactic Fungaloid

step by step

1. Copy disc to your hard drive as an .iso file using DVDDecrypter. --this bit removes the encryption from the disc and puts an 'image' of it on your hard disc

2. Mount the .iso image to a 'virtual drive' using daemon-tools. --this bit creates a new dvd drive on your computer and mounts the image in it. What this means is that your computer now thinks that it has a second dvd drive in it which as the original disc in it. The differance being that the disc is no longer encrypted.

3. Use DVDShrink to resize different parts of the disc so that they can fit on a blank DVD. --this is because most reatail discs are DVD9 (dual layer, 8.6gig) whereas most blank discs are DVD5 (single layer, 4.3gig). There are several different ways of doing this step DVDShrink is one of the easiest ones for more info www.doom9.org is the place to look.

4. Use your favourite burning program to burn the .iso file or DVD folders (I can't remember which DVDShrink makes) that DVDShrink has made to a blank DVD. --self explainatory, although I think it is important to choose a quality brand of blank media to ensure maximum compatability with DVD players and to give you the longest lifetime for your discs. I would recommend using discs with the Ritek G04 dye on them (I personally use DataSafe discs)

Like I said earlier there's loads more info over at www.doom9.org if you get stuck. Good luck

Hmmmm, maybe you didn't unlock it before you tried to rip it with DVD Shrink. You have to do that first. All you need to do is play the dvd for a few seconds with PowerDVD or WinDVD or whatever. Then, open up DVD Shrink and you shouldn't have any problems.

You can rip the disc into video and audio folders that can be played by either Power or Win as well. No need to get an mpg out of it.

I think he's new to the DVD Burner field, not DVDs themselves. Nothing wrong with that. I wish I had waited until now to get one, myself.

No you guys don't understand. I don't CARE to burn DVD's. We've had a burner for over a year, but it never interested me.

Many of you know I'm not into movies much. When I came here I used to be all about downloading movies, but that slowly faded away.

As I said this is teh first DVD I even bought. I've never made any effort to learn this stuff.

The only reason I even come here is for the general discussions forum.
