Scott DSX 550 - Region hack?

I picked this up before xmas as a present to my mom.. Today, when i tried to watch a region 1 DVD, I got the "Wrong region"-message :x.

After searching for a while and looking it up on Videohelp.com, I couldnt find any ways to make it region free.

Do anyone know a way?
