Changing themes

This just started happening recently but i can't change the theme on xp. Everytime i try to change the appearance from "Windows Classic style" to "Windows XP style" the computer crashes. The backround stays gray and i can't do anything but move the mouse. It's a real nuisance cause i'm tired of the classic windows style. Anyways, has this happened to anyone? Any idea how to fix this? Oh, and btw, this also happens on my brand new laptop.

wait for it...it shold turn gray then change your settings...i assume when you say new its like a decent speed comptuer so it sholdnt take more than a few seconds. no ive never heard of this problem

try this registry hack, reboot and try again
