Now, it might be possible that the original screener was encoded as interlace (but I highly doubt it). EITHER way, this could be encoded as progressive.
My progressive scan dvd player did NOT do inverse 3:2 pulldown.. So, it played back INTERLACED. ERGGGH.
GROUPS. PLEASE QUIT RUSHING RELEASES. OR LEARN WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
Sigh, i'll have to look into this later.. it might be as simple as setting the progressive flag and re-authoring with no re-encoding.
First post said CBR? I did not check, but that is shitty if so. A proper is well needed. =(
Man, if only you knew where these DVD screeners come from then you'd understand. There is no encoding possibilities. DVD screeners no longer come on easy to rip standard DVDs, they come on special discs that can only be played on special players. The only way to even get the video is to copy them directly onto a standard DVD-recorder (standalone real-time recorder). Since it is a standalone recorder, it is usually like a CBR 4mbit/sec interlaced recording (like Finding Neverland and a few/lot other that came out this year). It is part of the MPAA cut down on spreading screeners through the scene. With the Oscards coming up, this was such a problem that they were going to cut them all together until this solution came out (of making the special players).
::EDIT:: There are better standalone recorders they could have used. Team America was good and so was The Incredibles, but most of the rest of the DVDScrs have been like this one. But this all costs $$$
Now, if you wish, please feel free to watch the telesync until your *proper* comes out (which will most likely be a R3 or R1 retail). Until then, enjoy what's out, or start your own group (which is of course super welcome as we need more of them )
People sure do bitch alot though lately on the quality. It's free and WAY ahead of retail release dates (think this one's still in theaters).
Here is a link (from another post a while back (from Finding Neverland thread) which will explain it yet again): http://www.mpeg-playcenter.com/kiss...theres_more.htm
ONE other suggestion if you do not like interlaced video. Use PowerDVD with hardware acceleration and auto deinterlacing feature. It doesn't look great, but it's much better than without it. You can do TV out and the picture will look great. And on a 27" I'm sure it will look more than good enough.
