Hey guys an gals. Ive been downloading most movie's, dvd releases etc lately in xvid format due to its smaller file size, and because a program called DIKO, which i use to convert my avi into dvd format. Not sure where my problem arises. I honestly havent checked my downloaded files until today. I have been using DIKO to create the audio_ts and video_ts folders for my dvd's. I than use nero's wizard and choose dvd video. After burning my dvd on Memorex DVD-R 8x dvd's on my lite-on dvdrw sohw 812s burner and i view my dvd in my stand alone player i start getting problems.

Some of my dvd's wait till an hour into it, than the video jumps as if it is in a vcr an hit a rough spot on the tape and than the audio is totally out of sync, and other times, towards the begining the audio goes out of sync. I am rather new to burning dvd's etc. and im sure there are people who have different methods, but for being new DIKO was my route of choice as its an all in 1 program that does it all and its easy to use.

Any help in figuring out why my dvd's are having audio sync problems would be greatly appreciated.
ALSO, its not every DVD, ive managed to watch a few of them with no problems. I check on here for the quality of the video's before i even hunt for them, so i know the release itself is good.

Try a different program, I use both WinAVI Video Converter (para recommended it to me, thanks buddy!) and DVDSanta, though I have found overall with version 6.0 of WinAVI, it does a much better job and can even handle AC3 audio as well, which is nice since I have a receiver with Dolby Digital (EX) and the sound is excellent. And I have yet to burn a xvid to DVD with WinAVI that gave me any trouble or had any problems (using version 6.0 of course).

Now, will that take my xvid and create it into the dvd files i need to burn, or will it make it into the proper mpeg format, than i need to author it or no?

If you convert it to DVD, it will make DVD files (.vob/.ifo/.bup etc). So just use Nero and burn the files in DVD-Video mode


OK.. as for me, used WinAVI 6.2 to convert an Xvid movie to SVCD; but then, sound is somewhat out of sync.

got latest Xvid from Koepi's site (XviD-1.0.3-20122004.exe)


Oh and whenever I convert a movie to MPEG2 (still with WinAVI), then go to burn it with Nero (SVCD), it says that the video stream is not compliant to svcd-mpeg2... something like that and asks me to re-encode it ...

I have the same problem with xvid i tried win avi but still get the same problem. Ive also got the latest nero, imtoo avi convertor latest codecs, avi to dvd convertor etc. Also when i load some xvid files into virtual dub it comes up with an audio error? Yet when i stream the movie through my xbox to my television it plays perfectly. Does anyone have a sure fire way to convert xvid movie files to dvd (preferably in one program) anyway thanks guys.

Use mainconcept mpeg encoder to convert to dvd-compliant spec mpeg2, or use canopus pro coder 2 (i had a nasty few xvids that loved to crash windows and most progs wouldnt touch, but canopus took care of it perfectly) for converting to dvd-spec mpeg2, using dvd authoring software to convert the mpeg into dvd-format video_ts filestructure blah blah, and from there i use nero to burn it.

Works 95% of the time for me unless i've got my hands on a really screwy xvid, in which case you can usually find another copy, fix problems with in virtual dub, or just trash it.

realistically the ones on here looking for a one program solution to all video issues are really shooting the bar high, there is always so much to consider although take a look at canopus, it offers lots of full-fetaures (dvd authoring, and even burning *i think*) so it might be just what you're looking for.

My typical process:

-avi with xvid encoding
-open with virtualdub, just to see if there is problem with audio sync.

If there is a problem reported, I extract the .wav file for later.

-TMPGEnc to convert avi to a mpeg2 that is dvd compliant

-if I have a .wav file, i will use that as the audio channel, instead of the default one from the .avi

-Mpeg2 dvd compliant file to .vob using DVDLab...make some custom menus and all that fun stuff

-Nero to burn

Its a much longer process than most, but I havent had a problem yet
