Ahh... Not a bad release. This one is definitely for those that enjoy a bit of extras (ie: all of them actually in this case except the trailers).
But of course, you can't have your cake and eat it too. I personally found the video pretty much the same as the DVDScreener from Decemebr (minus the Property of Disney Pixar stuff of course). Which is pretty good, and there are extras on top of that.
But at the same time, the video ain't perfect either. Having a digital transfer of course helps the picture looking sharper at lower bitrates (no grain). And even at the 3.8kbit/sec, the video looked nice, so I really want to see the retail! Definitely kicks the crap out of Finding Nemo video quality.
Nice release! I am sure it can be better video wise, but hey, we got extras.
Video 8/10 - Not really complaining, just feel it could be better. Lots of little examples, but nothing major. This is nitpicking at it's worse. Anyone with a 27" will be creaming.
DVD-R 9/10 - Well, I don't like extras myself and would have preferred an extra 20-25% better video quality (oh heck, maybe even untouched MIGHT be possible), but nothing wrong with diversity once in a while. Going to buy this one, so no biggy either way. I feel if Replica could have had a remote chance of untouched video, they would have, which makes me think the movie is like 6 gigs on the disc. Just a hunch.
Nice work overall. No problems found here.
::EDIT:: Well, I just read a review of the retail from IGN:
http://dvd.ign.com/articles/591/591228p2.html
Seems like it mentions all the problems that I had with this encode were actually in the retail. I personally still think the video is better than Finding Nemo. I still stick with 8/10 (compared to retail that is) because when you re-encode a problem, you usually end up with a bigger problem. But this is probably a really good representation of the retail, however I'll personallyl hold onto my DVDScr and just buy it March 15.
