Question wasn't this released a month ago?

Am I just a retard? <No, don't really answer that> Wasn't this subbed rls out like a month ago (exactly 1 month ago, I think) by Legion? And didn't it have higher scores? Maybe its just the acid flashbacks.... yeah... that's probably it! Oh look at the cute squirrel... nice squirrel... here squirrel... here squirrel...

I'm sorry but you are wrong, sure anybody can start up dvd2svcd and have it spit out a dvdrip, but it will be shit. Not only is that program lacking but in your example the user knows nothing therefor using the right settings to get the best out of it will never happen. The ripper must have skill and knowledge about ripping and how it works. I could sit here and do an 3min mv right now using some dvd2svcd quick guide, but i can asure you it would be oversized and shitty. It takes allot of experience, skill and knowledge if you want to get the best out of a rip. To sum this right up...

A DVDrip is only as good as the ripper.

don't be elitist
with dvd2svcd and cce vbr mode its fairly easy to do an excellent rip. I've only ever ripped one dvd to svcd (normally do divx) and it looked superb. I followed doom9's guide

Don't get me wrong, and im not an elitist, you can get a desent rip from guides such as doom9s (which is actually quite good). But they key word there being desent. As somebody who has been ripping for almost 2 years, to either divx(actually i don't use the divx codec for reasons theres no point going into) or svcd. There is a quite noticable difference in a rip done following somebody else guide, and one done using your own knowledge(or the codec itself as well as the software etc) and experience based skill. I look back on some of my first rips and wonder what i was thinking, things i had never noticed before are now noticable due to having much more first hand experience. And hey, my avi rips still aint up to par (mainly due to the outdated methods i use) but non-the-less they are increasingly better than the first ones i did.

Perhapse, infact most probably, im rambling again lol. Tho mymusic's statement "Like it takes any talent to start up DVD2SVCD and rip a movie." is true (anybody can do a rip) if you are looking for the best quality you can get it DOES require skill and knowledge beyond reading a guide.

:: Om3n i love ya man but the word is descent -cx

I get your point but I find some people can get over the top regarding quality. I view any movie I can watch from 5 feet without blurring or blockiness as a good rip. You find some people studying individual frames and looking for flaws.
