I've compared the XviD (cd1), SVCD (sample), and DVD-R (sample). I think whoever nuked this for AR reasons didn't notice that there's a slight crop on both the left and right edges (not just the black, it goes into the frame a bit). Perhaps there's an AR issue with standalones that I'm not seeing because I have an HTPC, but I doubt it.
Personally I like the XviD the best of the three. Picture quality is at least as good as the SVCD on just 2 cds, and the audio is basically identical--which is to say pretty damn hollow sounding--on all 3 versions.
As for the DVD-R, I can hardly see the difference between it and the XviD. I don't think the source is clean enough to warrant a DVD worth of bandwidth.

XviD - 8/7/8
DVD - 7/6/8
