TS, TC SVCD 2-channel audio = Dolby Surround?

I've been wondering about this lately.. haven't really come up with a good answer on my own yet.

We all know that SVCDs are limited to only two channels of audio (stereo).

Are those two channels encoded in Dolby Surround, or some semblance thereof? I know that TSs and TCs usually use direct-feed audio of one kind or another, and that audio is most likely downsampled from the full 7.1 theatrical track.

For example, the SW3 DVDRip XviD was in Surround.. when I watch it on my system downstairs, I turn on Pro Logic II and I get a pretty decent 5.1 sound field out of it.

My question is.. will this work on ALL 2-channel releases? TSs, TCs, etc? Sometimes it's hard to tell when I'm watching it, whether it's doing "real" Surround decoding, or if it's just doing a "best-guess" from the stereo, which often sounds like crap since things will get sent to the wrong speaker.

i'm not a big (s)vcd downlader, but i've never seen one with 5.1 before.

your dolby processor will try and separate things, and make an arse of it most likely.

I didn't say 5.1, I just said "Surround".. which is 2-channel encoded using Pro Logic or Pro Logic II, which can then be split into a pretty decent approximation of 5.1 by any reciever with a Dolby chip. I'm well aware that SVCD only supports two channels, but that doesn't mean it can't have surround. Many VHS tapes use Dolby Surround, and they only support two channels. And, as mentioned, it works quite well on Star Wars.. I'm just trying to see if others are done that way, too. War of the Worlds, or whatever.

Putting the fun in fundie

If it's a direct stereo audio source or even ripped from the DTS disk, then I would assume that it contains the matrix that your receiver needs to decode the pro-logic.

If it's cam or otherwise, I wouldn't think so.

Bitter, miserable twat.

The NFOs for some of VideoCD's old telesyncs mentioned that the SVCD contained Pro-logic II audio downmixed from the DTS source.

But I wouldn't assume this is the case for every TS and TC.
