i found an unlimited access news server for 9 bucks a month called 100 proof news....but dont want to jump into it without hearing a few thoughts first...what do you guys think about it?

just as a quick addition...............i dont mind paying a few bucks for access...i just dont want to be limited to 6 GB like most affordable packages from news readers i ve looked into.....(i dont want to spend more than 10 or 15 bux).....

most cheap news services that offer unlimited ax etc usually have horrendous completition and / or retention.

i saw the buzzardnews feed the other day... must've been 2%-5% complete at max, with retention of a few days. if usenet is your bag, its not going to be cheap im afraid.

if you need heavy downloading these guys are supposed to be pretty good for $15 a month... http://www.usenetserver.com/

i have never tried them myself because my easynews account has always been more than enough for me. i only NEED it for fills my ISP server has incomplete. but i have heard more good than bad about usenetserver. they might not be the best service out there but FOR THE PRICE i hear they can't be beat.

before they offered unlimmited for $15 a month the reigning king of volume was http://www.newsfeeds.com but you need to manipulate several servers in order to be able to take advantage of the volume they offered. they would give you like 4 or 5 gig per DAY, but you would have to utilize 15 servers to get all that.

I've used 100proofnews. Here are my gripes.

#1- TERRIBLE completetion
#2- BAD speed
#3- They don't like to respond to account cancellation requests.

Stay FAR away from these guys.

apparently they have re-vamped their service lately, I now get about 18 days realilisticly retention and max out my 5mb line....still for the 8.95 a month unlimited. I know they used to be crap, but its alot better now. 8 connections, and I get any newsgroup thats worthwhile available. I'm sure you newsgroups users know what I mean.

didnt realise how long i been newsleeching....turns out i used dumwaldos first link for usenetserver....still 15 a month or 3 mos at a time for less

retention is at least a month...completion is awesome though i do find it varies from reader to reader

edit:cant comment on speed...all i have is a shitty 1.5 dsl connect but it handles 200 KBs fine
