Building a computer on a tight budget

I am about to build a new pc.

I'm not really partial to AMD, I could care less if it's AMD/Intel. I have been looking all over for a some good prices.

If your a fan boy of either or, I don't care about your opinions, Plain and simple.

I can't spend to much on this damn thing, Since I have to piece it together. Here is what I am looking at so far.
This is also a dual core cpu.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...5800&CatId=2019

I also thought about this chip, buying the combo with this. But I don't think it will be as good of a deal as listed above

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16819103037

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I won't skimp on the HD this time.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...8&Sku=TSD-500M2
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
To start out I won't go with less than 1gig of ram. I'd prefer to start with 2gigs but won't be able to afford that.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is where I don't know much at all, Video cards. We all know I don't play many pc games. I do like emulation, etc. and I do like to play some games on my pc. Maybe some ps2 emulation for the hell of it. So I will need a decent video card. I won't spend over $150 and that's pushing it. Any ideas?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I never liked onboard audio, but anymore I don't care, it's just one more thing I don't have to buy, same with network card.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Case, I'm pretty sure I know what I'm going to get, Something cheap and looks decent. I don't want it to look all glamerous, I want something a bit plain. I'm thinking about this.

or
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?in...-102-BK&cat=CAS

I'm trying to do this for under $500 but I want/need a very decent computer. This cost needs to include my dvd burner. But those are so god damn cheap anymore.

Give me some ideas people, Oh, Also yes I will be doing HD video. So keep this in mind.

Thinking about it, and looking up some of the prices for what I really want, I will end up spending over $500

If I get a smaller HD for example 250gbit that would save me a bit of money. I just don't want something like I had before, 40gbit hd. it was horrible, VERY small.

It's love baby!

If your going to build new, I'd go with the E4300 Intel C2D, they've got them retail boxed at Micro Center for $162. Best price I've seen, even better than Newegg or TD. And this sucker overclocks (get a good mobo though) like crazy. It's going to be my next system.

Grab some DDR2 ram, and then a Video Card. Micro Center has some excellent prices, for the same price as that 256meg 7600GS you posted above you can get a 512meg 7600GS at Micro Center. Don't completely ignore box stores. The new ad came out just yesterday so check it out.

You'll need a new power supply. Check out comments and recommendations on different sites like Hardware Central or Anandtech.com for some. I recommend the Ultra series at Micro Center, got 5 myself, and all work great. Don't go with anything less than 500watts though they have a excellent 600w on sale that I have 3 off. Does the job with my crossfire boards just fine.

Hey, next time call me, but not at work. I'll make sure you get the best price for what you want.

Just a side note, you must be loyal to Tiger Direct, which is fine, but in all honesty I've have found better prices at newegg.com and Micro Center. Much better than TD most times. I've order 20 things in the past 6 months from newegg and not one has shown up late, damaged, non-working, or incorrect. Which is probably why Computer Shopper readers gave it the best rating for 2006 Online Computer Hardware Retailer. And I've purchase almost as many things from Micro Center, and everything has worked fine, plus I've got all but 2 rebates back. MC is good about making sure you get your money back.

It's not that I'm loyal to TD, I have just dealt with them for many years, There customer service has been top notch.

I'm probably going to start buying the stuff as soon as 1st of March.

$162 isn't bad at all, I haven't found a 2 core cpu on TD. If it comes to over $250 for the cpu and mobo that won't do. That's pushing it.

That's why I posted the question, I am not just going to buy off of TD, It was more of "Hey this is what I'm looking at" I need some help...er I mean I want some help.

I got lucky with my previous build, It was a good deal, But I probably didn't get the best deal at the time price wise at least.

I personally haven't had good luck with ATI vid cards, So I will probably stick to Nvidia. But I'm not ruleing ATI out.

The only suggestion I feel qualified to make is that you try to 'future proof' your new machine. Make sure your main board is compatible with todays high end processors, it will make it easier and cheaper to upgrade it when the need arises. You can bet that Intels Kentsfield range will be cheap and cheerful next year when the new 45nm chips arrive.

I went for a Core 2 Duo E6700 (Conroe) earlier this year, I fucking love it. The E6300 I hear is super steady when overclocked though and its a reasonable price.

This Mofo looks pretty nice, What do you guys think? It's on the cheaper side of things also. I am willing to spend this much on this. Would it be worth it?

Would it be worth it?

I would say absolutely but I am so horny for Intel chips right now, especially the core duo's, my opinion could be biased.

How much did that cost? If you don't mind? What other specs can you give?
