I didn't have a lot of money, So I bought a Socket A mobo and a 2400+ for $30 from a good friend of mine. and I bought 512k of ram, and a new case, So I know have 768k of ram. Also bought a lightscribe burner for $35 at a local shop.
So with all the shit I bought it cost me $175

I am going to be upgrading this pc so I can use it for a while.

I'm going to add 1gig of ram. So I can have 1.5g of ram. The mobo only has 2 slots.

I'm running a geforce 6200.

It does 720p without any problems.

I'm enjoying this pc. It's not bad at all.

In all fairness Para, with that speed CPU you're not going to get a massive benefit from twatloads of ram (wouldn't bother with more than a gig tbh) - unless you have an urge to run a shitload of programs very slowly.

A friend of mine was saying the same thing. That's why he never put more than 1gig into his pc. I just figured the programs that I do use constantly would just run a bit better. Don't know though.

Since I have 768, do you think I should even bother with the extra 256? to = 1gig?

It runs really decent, Eventually this will be a second pc for misc shit. Surfing porn, downloading, and burning movies and shit.

The main things I do with my pc now are.

Music of course, Just listening, and burning.
movies watching at times and burning
HTML etc. and shit like that.
At times encoding dvd's.
surfing the web.
Photoshop, illistrator etc, Will use on new pc when built though.

Should I just add the HD to this pc? and then buy my monitor?

NO porn yet, About to though.

That's what I'd do... Shove shitloads of hard disk space up it's shitter and use it as a server/media box/downloader doohickey and any CPU intensive stuff can be done on your new swanky PC once you get it.

It really depends on what you're going to be running on it - if you intend on having lots of processes running simultaneously then more ram would be useful. Otherwise, don't bother.

Basically, put a sensible load on the PC. You know, open as many programs as you're ever likely to run on it - don't try and break it, just stress it... Now, go into Task Manager, into the Performance Tab and check your CPU usage but more importantly check the Page File utilisation and amount of physical memory still available - if the pagefile is getting twatted and your ram is "gone" then you need to shove some more up it
