hi, this DVDR movie is supposed to have 2 audio tracks, DD 2.0 and mpeg 5.1

what is mpeg 5.1?

when I play the film on my computer (I have the optical output going to my home theater receiver) it plays the DD 2.0 track normally but it plays the other 5.1 track like a normal stereo track.

is there a way I could convert this mpeg 5.1 track to DD 5.1 somehow?

i just never heard of this mpeg 5.1

any help is appreciated thanks!

Have you played it in your dvd player and tried to switch audio tracks ?

When DVD first came out, there were two competing formats for multichannel audio - Dolby Digital (AC3) and MPEG.

Obviously AC3 won out, and DTS came later, but multi-channel MPEG is now obsolete and hardly any home cinema receivers will be able to decode it.

You may be able to find some old software that will decode the audio to 6 separate WAVs, you can then re-encode them to AC3. I remember discussions about SVCD with multichannel audio (SVCD only supports MPEG, not AC3) mentioned Hypercube Transcoder could convert 5.1 AC3 into 5.1 MPEG, but I don't know if it will transcode in the other direction.
