Review: The Field - From Here We Go Sublime (2007) **3rd Best Album Of 2007!!!!!*

The Field - From Here We Go To Sublime
Just WOW! Only got to get my hands on this album today, but i'm so glad I did!
What an album! Every track is pretty much a gem on this ten track long player. Personal favorites for me include the wonderfully sublime (excuse pun) 'A Paw In My Face' which just sounds absolutely dreamy, BUT has the most annoying ending to a song ever. Yes even more annoying and shitter than the ending to 'I Just Called To Say I Love You'. It ends with a breakdown and change of tone that should have been included about 2 minutes earlier in the track, but then it just fades out as it gets interesting! WHAT A CROCK!
Other juicy tracks I like best are 'The Little Heart Beats So Fast' which sounds a bit like a faster track off of the album 'Super Discount' by the sexually explicit Ettienne de Crecy (Shn you fucking fat French fuckface, tell these kids who he is). It sounds a bit like recent stuff by Underworld too. Very dreamy, hypnotic techno.
'Everyday' has a wonderfully 'tech' sounding, almost Fleetwood Mac-ish looped sample layered in to some chunky retro-esque beats and floaty synth work.
So many more of the tracks on this album are just brilliant. It's all wonderful stuff that I like to class (and may have invented a new genre label here?) as 'headphone tech'. You'd probably not fill a floor with it, but it does make for wonderful personal listening.
This would have been my choice for album of 2007, except it doesn't even come close to Burial's album. Add to that that the track 'A Paw In My Face' has the worst ending to a song ever, even though it's brilliant (you'll see what I mean when you hear it) means that it just can't compete with Burial - Untrue.
In fact, it's probably my third favourite album of the year. Joint third with the Roisin Murphy album 'Overpowered' and third behind Burial - Untrue and Burial - Burial.
Even though the first Burial album was out in 2006, I missed out, so it's a double whammy for me this year as Burial scores my personal top two slots for best albums of the year.
Back to this album though, please give it a listen, it really is brilliant. Like Burial, best served with a bag of the sacred herb! Start off with 'A Paw In My Face' then as you get more stoned, put on 'Everyday'.
After that put on Burial - Shell Of Light (off the Untrue album) and you'll probably start to cry...
Final Score: 9.25 out of 10.
